At least, I thought I did. I had actually turned on the front burner, where I had stupidly placed a plastic lid. I am chopping onions and begin to smell some kind of chemical burning. So I turn around and there is this thing melting into the somewhat fragile electric stovetop (you know, scratches easily). I take the nearest fork and continue to strike at the fire until it seems out (as if a fork is good for that job, but I was panicking), but the plastic smoke is so thick and I feel pretty faint from it, things are getting a little blurry visually. I crawl on the floor to the other room and open the windows. It smelled awful. Then my dad came home and we cleaned the range together, after it had cooled, all that plastic stuck to the surface.
