Apart from its sweet, tangy and a slightly citrus flavour, this herb has a number of health benefits to offer. So read ahead and try adding a pinch of coriander leaves or coriander powder to your dishes as often as possible<\/p>\n<p>Coriander, commonly known as Dhania in the Indian Subcontinent or Cilantro in the Americas and some part of Europe, is an herb which is extensively used around the world as a condiment or as a garnish or as a decoration on the dishes<\/p>\n<p>Cilantro, also known as Coriander, can be found in many of your favorite Mexican and Spanish dishes. Many of your favorite salsa&#39;s have cilantro included in them. Its unmistakable aroma gives cilantro its distinct flavor. Would you believe that with that wonderful flavor come such amazing health benefits?<\/p>\n<p>Skin inflammation: Cineole, one of the 11 components of the essential oils, and linoleic acid, present in coriander, possess anti rheumatic and anti arthritic properties, which are very beneficial for swelling caused due to these two reasons. For others, such as swelling due to malfunctioning of kidney or anemia, it is seen to be effective to some extent, as some of the components help excretion of extra water from the body while.<\/p>\n<p>Coriander leaves when digested turn sweet and alleviate irritations in the intestines. They stimulate appetite and help in easy digestion too. They have magnesium, potassium and fiber in plenty. So regular consumption boosts immunity and purifies blood. They stimulate insulin production and hence help prevent diabetes.<\/p>\n<p>Just as mint leaves, coriander leaves too help in dealing with headaches. A paste made of coriander leaves is smeared on the forehead and temples for a quick relief from headaches. This should be followed by thorough rest. Coriander leaves also cure mouth ulcers. For this a handful of coriander leaves are ground to a not so fine paste and then masticated thoroughly for a few minutes. This is done two to three times a day for a few days. <\/p>\n<p>For relief from menstrual pain, women can take around twenty five thoroughly cleaned coriander seeds and boil them in a glass of water. This is reduced to half and allowed to cool to a lukewarm temperature. Sugar can be added as needed. This helps in relieving menstrual pain.<\/p>\n<p>Coriander leaves are found to be effective in alleviating digestive problems. The leaves are washed thoroughly, ground to a paste and then pressed to obtain a tablespoon of juice. One teaspoon of cumin seeds are powdered thoroughly. Both are added to a glass of water along with a pinch of salt. This is an excellent home remedy for indigestion. This is found to cure indigestion as well as induce appetite within minutes. It is mainly useful in curing muscle aches, digestive problems and any nerve related ailment.<\/p>\n<p>* Coriander is helpful in easing gastrointestinal symptoms, intestinal gassiness and eases flatulence also. Coriander seeds can stimulate a flagging appetite also. For, stomach upset, appetite loss, or flatulence:<\/p>\n<p>Prepare a tea by simmering 1 to 2 teaspoons of crushed or bruised coriander seeds per 8 ounces of water. Drink up to three times a day between meals. Or add 1 teaspoon (15 ml) of coriander liquid extract to water and drink three times a day between meals.<\/p>\n<p>* In cases of giddiness and loss of memory, de-husked seeds of coriander should be boiled with 4 parts milk and 8 parts water. This should be reduced to half and taken internally twice a day.<\/p>\n<p>* To quench excessive thirst boil water and add 2 tsp coriander seeds. Cool and have this drink. This is also useful in diarrhea, intestinal colic, piles and intestinal worms.<\/p>\n<p>* In cough and urinary infection a decoction of these seeds may prove beneficial.<\/p>\n<p>* Chew the seeds to rid yourself of bad breath.<\/p>\n<p>* For fevers, accompanied by chills and in fevers where the patient feels extremely parched, a cold infusion of the seeds along with sugar may be given.<\/p>\n<p>* For headaches and swellings, the leaves of coriander may be applied externally.<\/p>\n<p>* The juice of coriander leaves is found effective in case of mouth ulcers and throat irritations.
