GRATE ADVICE:
Soft cheeses such as Gouda and Cheddar are much easier to grate if left in the freezer for 15 minutes to harden.<\/p>\n

SHREDDED LETTUCE:
Don't cut lettuce leaves with a knife when making a salad, the cut edges will turn brown. Rather shred the leaves by hand to keep them green and looking fresh.<\/p>\n

NUTTY IDEA:
If you don't have a nut cracker, ask your husband if you can borrow his vice grip – it works just as well.<\/p>\n

NO MORE FISHING ODOURS.
Trying to get rid of fishy smells on clothing and fishing gear after an angling weekend? Rinse the item with a strong bicarbonate of soda solution. Perhaps your car boot has a nasty whiff to it. Sprinkle some dry bicarbonate of soda on the carpet, leave for ten minutes.<\/p>\n

NASTY ODOURS IN CAR.
If your car boot or your car has a nasty odour, keep a sachet of sta soft in it. The nasty odour will soon disappear.<\/p>\n

EMERGENCY WATER BAG:
If you need water for your car radiator on the open road, and you don't have a can, remember a plastic shopping bag will also do the trick.<\/p>\n

HOT WAX TIP:
If candle wax solidifies on a tablecloth, here's how to get rid of it. First, place the cloth in the freezer until the wax becomes hard and brittle and then scrape off with a blunt knife. The residue can be removed by soaking the spot with cleaning benzene. The second method is placing the cloth between 2 sheets of brown paper and ironing the spot with a hot iron. The residue can be cleaned with benzene.<\/p>\n

WATER RING WOES:
A stubborn water ring in a clear glass flower vase can be removed by soaking some cotton wool with vinegar, laying the vase on its side and applying the cotton wool to the affected area. Leave for a few hours, and then rinse with soapy water.<\/p>\n

SAFETY TIPS FOR IRONS:<\/p>\n

   1. Never leave an iron on when answering the doorbell or telephone.
   2. Replace frayed cords immediately.
   3. keep a hot iron out of reach of babies and young children
   4. Don't fill a steam iron with water while it's switched on.
