{"id":18319,"date":"2016-07-28T05:43:33","date_gmt":"2016-07-28T03:43:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.radioislam.org.za\/wordpress\/2016\/07\/28\/baking-soda-bicarbonate-of-soda-uses-28-07-16\/"},"modified":"2016-07-28T05:43:33","modified_gmt":"2016-07-28T03:43:33","slug":"baking-soda-bicarbonate-of-soda-uses-28-07-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radioislam.org.za\/a\/baking-soda-bicarbonate-of-soda-uses-28-07-16\/","title":{"rendered":"Baking soda\/ bicarbonate of soda uses (28.07.16)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">BAKING SODA<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">~<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Some people thought baking soda was just for baking, however,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">when I learned how it freshened, I began dumping the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Baking Soda down my drain and I was completed converted to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">the wonders of this &#8220;Miracle product&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Diaper Pail or Garbage smells?<\/strong> <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">No worries, pour a little baking soda in the \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">bottom and just keep it there.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Mishaps on the sofa<\/strong>, and it doesn\u2019t quite smell fresh and clean? \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Sprinkle just a tad in between the cushions and it will freshen \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">with in a day or two. Then vacuum up the remnants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Baking Powder Substitute:<\/strong> Since we all know to bake with it, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">did you know you can substitute it for baking powder by\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">mixing it with cream of tartar or vinegar?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Produce Wash:<\/strong> More and more pesticides and wax are added to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">our produce. Fill your sink with water and wash fruits and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">vegetables with baking soda.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Clean and Freshen Drain:<\/strong> <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">I\u2019ve used a Baking Soda and vinegar rinse for cleaning my drains,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">as well as keeping the septic balanced for years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Clogged Drains: <\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">I pour baking soda to fill the drain hole, pour in a couple cups of vinegar\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">and let it bubble. Leave sit for a time (30 minutes?) and let the fizzy\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">reaction do its work then flush with hot water. Repeat if necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Clean Shiny Sink and bathtub:<\/strong> I love the thought of a sparkling clean <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">sink. It\u2019s still a goal that is made easy with just a bit of elbow grease, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">water and my baking soda paste. The same goes for our bathtub, but with\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">a little dedication, the rings and gunk comes right off, and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">I\u2019ve tried many cleaners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>&#8220;Degunk&#8221; Washing Machine<\/strong>: I use one cup of baking soda and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">one cup of white vinegar in the washing machine to degunk it <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">from detergent and such. Just run through the washing cycle once by itself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Coffee Pot Cleaner:<\/strong> Similar to rinsing the washing machine, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">do the same for the coffee pot. Add 1\/4-cup baking soda to one quart of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">warm water and scrub those nasty stains away. I always just let it soak\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">over night and then wipe clean in morning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Stove Top Cleaning:<\/strong> <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Three of us shared Baking Soda\u2019s wonders on cleaning stove tops.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">&#8220;I had liquid from cooking on the stove top that was blackened and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">IMPOSSIBLE to get out. Used baking soda with a little water on a paper towel<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"> and voila, it was gone!!!! So excited!!! &#8221; It is my favorite thing to clean my <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">stove top! I ruined my last stovetop by using abrasive cleaners to get <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">the grime off. Not anymore! Baking soda is strong enough to <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">make is sparkle without leaving a scratch!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Cleaning Outside Grill:<\/strong> Scrub baking soda paste mixture on the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">grate to cut through the grease, as well as on all the metal parts. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">The grease comes off fabulously.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Home Deodorizer:<\/strong> <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">While I store my baking soda in quite little mason or glass jars, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">someone took me one step further by sharing that you can add a\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">few drops of essential oils to your baking soda and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">it makes a fabulous deodorizer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Clean Burned Pans:<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"> If you don\u2019t want to spend all day scrubbing, put baking soda with\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">enough water to cover the bottom of the pan and bring to a boil for\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">about fifteen minutes. It will begin loosening the food until <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">you can clean with greater ease.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">If there\u2019s just a bit of burned food, make a thick paste of baking soda\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">and water, and use it to scrub. Works on both enameled <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">cast iron and stainless steel pans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Chrome:<\/strong> <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">If you have some chrome that needs polishing, use dry baking soda\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">on a dry clean soft cloth. It will make your chrome sparkle.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">A friend\u2019s table has chrome legs and uses this method to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">keep the legs shining and looking like new.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Clean Silver:<\/strong> <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Use baking soda to clean silver jewelry. Make a paste of it and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">rub it in with either your fingers or a soft brush, then rinse and \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">pat dry. You\u2019ll be amazed how shiny silver gets!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Fresh Flower Help:<\/strong> Keep freshly cut flowers fresh longer by\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">adding a teaspoon of baking soda to the vase water.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Foot\/Shoe Deodorizer:<\/strong> <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Every single one of our sons\u2019 shoes have baking soda sprinkled <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">in them. I wish I was joking about this, but it\u2019s true.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Drawers:<\/strong> <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Sometimes when I buy secondhand furniture there might be odd odors.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">I regularly sprinkle baking soda in the drawers and it freshens tremendously.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">I now do this in my sons\u2019 dresser drawers as well, just because.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Toothpaste:<\/strong> <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">I first started using baking soda to clean and whiten my teeth back\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">in high school. I don\u2019t use it daily, but whenever I see coffee stains pop up,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">it\u2019s baking soda to the rescue. I wet my toothbrush and dip it into my<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"> little baggie of baking soda and scrub. It tastes horrible, but works <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">wonders. Even my teens are hooked on this natural remedy as well. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Many of my friends only use water and baking soda, but ask your <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">dentist because it may be too abrasive for daily cleaning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Sore Throat:<\/strong> <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">When you have an irritated throat, just add baking soda to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">a cup of water, squeeze half a lemon to it, gargle and spit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Mouth Wash:<\/strong> <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Put a teaspoon in a glass of water and rinse your mouth just\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">like you would a traditional brand. It helps eradicate <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">the odour and bacteria, not just cover it up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Natural Deodorant: <\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">I know, it sounds quite radical, and I have not done this, but \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">some of my natural friends love it. Some just use a baking soda paste\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">or use a powder puff to apply it dry, while others have mixed it with\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Essential Oils and coconut oil to actually make a deodorant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Clean Brushes and Combs:<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"> Our hair leaves a lot of oils on our brushes, but a simple soak\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">in water and baking soda will freshen them back like new.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Facial and Body Scrub:<\/strong> <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Corrine shares, &#8220;My favorite thing to use baking soda for is as a\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">facial scrub. Because the ph is different than our skin, it makes the skin <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">refresh itself. My skin feels as smooth as a baby\u2019s behind when I\u2019m done.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"> Then for a little coconut oil and my face is happy! Another shares,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">I mix baking soda and lemon juice and keep it in a jar in my bathroom for\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">washing my face. It keeps my face clean and removes blackheads.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Bath Soak:<\/strong> <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Sprinkle a bit of baking soda with Epsom salts into your bath water. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">The salt will draw out toxins and the baking soda will ensure that\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">your body won\u2019t reabsorb the toxins and it will make your\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">skin feel soft like a babies bottom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Hand Odour:<\/strong> <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">If you have strong stubborn smells on your hands, \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">rub them with baking soda and water.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Dry Shampoo:<\/strong> <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Most salons now offer a &#8220;designer&#8221; version of dry shampoo to allow\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">you to go a few days between washes. Why not try baking soda first? \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Pour a small amount in the palm of your hand and apply to scalp and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">roots of hair. It absorbs oil, freshens hair, and also boosts your shampoo <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">the next time you wash in the shower! Shampoo: The &#8220;No-Poo&#8221; movement is\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">out in full force. Many of my readers and friends echo this praise, <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">&#8220;I use it instead of shampoo, then rinse with mild vinegar shampoo. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">I made the switch about 3 years ago, and my wavy hair has done SO much better&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">less frizz {and this in SC and TX!} and more definition. Plus, I can go longer\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">between cuts because the ends don\u2019t split and dry out nearly\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">as quickly.
