When the temperature begins to climb, bacteria can multiply very quickly, making your bins an effective breeding source for disease and unpleasant odours, as well as attracting a host of unwanted pests.<br \/><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Here are a few useful suggestions to help prevent your bins from turning into a breeding ground for germs and bacteria this summer.<br \/><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u2022 To contain flies, maggots and smells, make sure to keep the lids of your bins closed at all times.<br \/><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u2022 To help soak up moisture and prevent waste from sticking to your bins, place newspapers in the bottom of them.<br \/><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u2022 Don\u2019t leave leftover food uncovered before you put it into your bin. Instead, wrap food in some newspaper prior to throwing it out.<br \/><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u2022 When possible, try to keep your bins away from direct sunlight. This will help minimize odours that can attract flies. Also try to keep the bin away from your open windows and doors.<br \/><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u2022 It is a good idea to compost as much organic waste as possible. It will help stop your bin from overflowing as well as prevent it from producing unpleasant smells.<br \/><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u2022 Empty disposable diapers into your toilet before you throw them into the bin. Using reusable diapers may also be a good alternative.<br \/><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u2022 Have your bins regularly cleaned and disinfected. Let sit for 15 minutes, then using a long handled scrub brush, scrub the insides of the can. In many cases, it is up to you to keep your bin clean and odour-free. Here are some helpful tips on to how to keep your bins looking and smelling great.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">1. Remove your bins from the garage.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Before you get started on the road to a sparkling bin, you will more than likely want to haul your bins out of the garage. Your family or other tenants that you have to share the garage with will be grateful to you for not opening up that dreaded can of worms in the garage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">2. Clean your containers on trash day.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The best time to clean your bins is on garbage day, immediately after your trash has been picked up. The bins will be empty, giving you the green light to roll up your sleeves and get to it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">3.
