{"id":21410,"date":"2017-10-17T15:49:54","date_gmt":"2017-10-17T13:49:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.radioislam.org.za\/wordpress\/2017\/10\/17\/qualcomm-performs-first-5g-test-on-mobile-device\/"},"modified":"2017-10-17T15:49:54","modified_gmt":"2017-10-17T13:49:54","slug":"qualcomm-performs-first-5g-test-on-mobile-device","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radioislam.org.za\/a\/qualcomm-performs-first-5g-test-on-mobile-device\/","title":{"rendered":"Qualcomm Performs First 5G Test on Mobile Device"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News &#8211; 17-10-2017<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Chipmaker Qualcomm has demonstrated mobile internet speeds of 1Gbps using a 5G smartphone chip.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The test was completed using the X50 5G modem first announced a year ago and was performed on the 28GHz millimeter wave frequency band.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 5G data connection demonstration took place in Qualcomm Technologies\u2019 laboratories in San Diego.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Qualcomm\u2019s Cristiano Amon has described the demonstration as a &#8220;major milestone&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAchieving the world\u2019s first announced 5G data connection with the Snapdragon X50 5G modem chipset on 28GHz mmWave spectrum is truly a testament to Qualcomm Technologies\u2019 leadership in 5G and extensive expertise in mobile connectivity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Qualcomm says the modem achieved gigabit speeds in this test, but it is capable of 5Gbps speeds once full 5G deployments are completed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The company has also announced the new Snapdragon 636 processor for midrange smartphones.<\/p>\n<p>The 636 succeeds the 630, which just started showing up in phones in the past couple of months, and boasts a 40 percent improvement in performance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is a 14nm chip (for comparison, the high-end Snapdragon 835 is a 10nm chip, lower numbers are better) and supports ultrawide FHD+ displays, 600Mbps LTE connections, and up to 24-megapixel cameras.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Qualcomm says the new chip will be shipping to its customers beginning in November, so it will likely be a year or so before it shows up in a smartphone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FaizelPatel143\" rel=\"alternate\">Twitter: @FaizelPatel143<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News &#8211; 17-10-2017 Chipmaker Qualcomm has demonstrated mobile internet speeds of 1Gbps using a 5G smartphone chip.
