Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 14-03-2018<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n \n Renowned British physicist Stephen Hawking has died at age 76.<\/p>\n The best-known theoretical physicist of his time, Hawking wrote so lucidly of the mysteries of space, time and black holes that his book, \u201cA Brief History of Time,\u201d became an international best seller, making him one of science\u2019s biggest celebrities since Albert Einstein.<\/p>\n He followed up \u201cA Brief History of Time\u201d in 2001 with the more accessible sequel \u201cThe Universe in a Nutshell,\u201d updating readers on concepts like super gravity, naked singularities and the possibility of an 11-dimensional universe.<\/p>\n In a statement, Hawking\u2019s children Lucy, Robert, and Tim say they are heartbroken by their fathers passing.<\/p>\n “We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today. He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years.”<\/p>\n Even though his body was attacked by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, when Hawking was 21, he stunned doctors by living with the normally fatal illness for more than 50 years. A severe attack of pneumonia in 1985 left him breathing through a tube, forcing him to communicate through an electronic voice synthesizer that gave him his distinctive robotic monotone.<\/p>\n The family says his courage and persistence with his brilliance and humour inspired people across the world.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n
