{"id":23295,"date":"2018-07-30T06:50:53","date_gmt":"2018-07-30T04:50:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.radioislam.org.za\/wordpress\/2018\/07\/30\/joburg-libraries-partner-with-google-sa-to-empower-youth-with-digital-skills\/"},"modified":"2018-07-30T06:50:53","modified_gmt":"2018-07-30T04:50:53","slug":"joburg-libraries-partner-with-google-sa-to-empower-youth-with-digital-skills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radioislam.org.za\/a\/joburg-libraries-partner-with-google-sa-to-empower-youth-with-digital-skills\/","title":{"rendered":"Joburg Libraries Partner with Google SA to Empower Youth with Digital Skills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News &#8211; 29-07-2018<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The City of Johannesburg Library and Information Services (LIS) Department has collaborated with Google SA to provide free online-training in digital and entrepreneurial skills programmes in 12 of its eLearning Classrooms situated in libraries across the City.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The courses\u2019 content will be accessed by registering \u201cfor free\u201d to be a student at the centres via an e-learning portal: \u201cCOJ-ELEARNING\u201d \u2013 or online via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cojelearning.org.za\/\" rel=\"alternate\">www.cojelearning.org.za<\/a> (where students can access the content beyond library operational hours).<\/p>\n<p>The programmes will be self-paced, done in groups or individually with the support of trained facilitators in the eClassroom facilities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Member of Mayoral Committee for Community Development Nonhlanhla Sifumba say the department greatly embraces this opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be a game changer to the narrative of how the communities acknowledge the changing role of libraries in modern societies across the globe. As a City, we welcome the collaboration as it will improve skills in our youth, particularly youth from the previously forgotten communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Statistics SA, the City of Johannesburg has a population of around 4.9 million people. The growing concern, however, has been its ability to create a sustainable future for its citizens.
