{"id":23372,"date":"2018-08-09T07:26:38","date_gmt":"2018-08-09T05:26:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.radioislam.org.za\/wordpress\/2018\/08\/09\/sabric-tap-and-go-bank-cards-are-safe\/"},"modified":"2018-08-09T07:26:38","modified_gmt":"2018-08-09T05:26:38","slug":"sabric-tap-and-go-bank-cards-are-safe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radioislam.org.za\/a\/sabric-tap-and-go-bank-cards-are-safe\/","title":{"rendered":"SABRIC: &#8220;Tap-And-Go&#8221; Bank Cards Are Safe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News &#8211; 09-08-2018<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The South African Banking Risk Information Centre has assured customers that contactless or \u2018tap-and-go\u2019 bank cards are as secure as traditional bank cards.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This comes after a video being circulated on social media, showing how easy it is to steal information when using contactless bank cards or \u201ctap-and-go\u201d cards.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">SABRIC, has dispelled the video saying it may have created the incorrect perception that contactless cards are easy to exploit by criminals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">SABRIC\u2019s Head of Relationship Management Susan Potgieter says banks have taken the necessary precautions to ensure tap-and-go cards are a safe and secure method of payment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBanks have upfront implemented mitigation measures. So you cannot tap you card the whole day, its limited to a couple of transactions per day. It has a cap on it with regards to monetary value of the transaction.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However Potgieter says customers must ensure that their cards are safe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt\u2019s very important to always handle your card yourself. Look after your card as if its cash, so make sure you always know where it is, so when you transact, you tap the card, you don\u2019t give it to somebody else to tap.
