\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nApple has announced that Sir Jony Ive, Apple\u2019s chief design officer, will depart the company as an\u00a0employee later this year to form an independent design company which\u00a0will count Apple among its primary clients.\u00a0<\/p>\n
While he pursues personal\u00a0projects,\u00a0Ive in\u00a0his new company will continue to work closely and on a range of projects with Apple.\u00a0<\/p>\n
CEO Tim Cook says Apple will continue to benefit from\u00a0 Ive\u2019s talents by working directly with him on exclusive projects,<\/p>\n
\u201cJony is a singular figure in the design world and his role in Apple\u2019s revival cannot be overstated, from 1998\u2019s groundbreaking iMac to the iPhone\u00a0and the unprecedented ambition of Apple Park, where recently he has been putting so much of his energy and care.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ive says he has utmost\u00a0confidence in his designer colleagues he leaves behind at Apple and looks forward to working with them. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Design team leaders Evans Hankey, vice president of Industrial Design, and Alan Dye, vice president of Human Interface Design, will report to Jeff\u00a0Williams, Apple\u2019s chief operating officer.\u00a0<\/p>\n
