{"id":26573,"date":"2019-12-10T17:10:24","date_gmt":"2019-12-10T15:10:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.radioislam.org.za\/wordpress\/2019\/12\/10\/how-to-stop-kids-from-making-in-app-purchases-on-your-android-phone\/"},"modified":"2020-02-24T09:58:48","modified_gmt":"2020-02-24T07:58:48","slug":"how-to-stop-kids-from-making-in-app-purchases-on-your-android-phone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radioislam.org.za\/a\/how-to-stop-kids-from-making-in-app-purchases-on-your-android-phone\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Stop Kids from Making In-App Purchases on Your Android Phone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Faizel Patel, Radio Islam\u00a0 &#8211; 10-12-2019<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FaizelPatel143\" rel=\"alternate\">Twitter: @FaizelPatel143<\/a>)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you have an Android phone, the Google Play Store features apps which allows you to purchase additional content or services within the app.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Examples of these \u2018in-app\u2019 purchases include additional functionality, not included in the free version of the app and virtual coins, power-ups, character costumes and levels within a game.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Parents have learnt the hard way that their kids can run up a fortune in credit card charges on in-app purchases, if left unsupervised with a smartphone or tablet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Alcatel takes you through the steps you can take to avoid accidental or unwanted in-app purchases on your Android device:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Turn on authentication<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Authentication means certain information, like a password or a fingerprint, must be entered on your device to make a purchase. Thus, if you sometimes let your child use your phone, he or she will not be able to make in-app purchases without your permission:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Open the Google Play Store app<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Tap Menu and then Settings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Tap Require authentication for purchase<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Choose a setting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Follow the on-screen instructions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If your device supports fingerprint authentication, you can approve Google Play purchases with a fingerprint scan. Turn on Fingerprint authentication in settings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To change authentication settings, you will need your Google password. You can choose between the following authentication settings:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">For all purchases through Google Play: The user must provide authentication for every digital content purchase through Google Play on your device, including in-app purchases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Every 30 minutes: Once you authenticate for a purchase, you will not need to provide authentication for digital content you buy for the next half an hour.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Never: Authentication is not required for any purchases. This setting isn\u2019t recommended, even if you never share your phone with a child.
