As South Africa continues the battle against COVID-19, technology company Mara Phones has donated 500 smartphones to the Health Department to assist in getting more people connected during the pandemic.<\/p>\n
Mara has commended government\u2019s efforts to constrain the spread of Covid-19 as well as the frontline workers who put their lives at risk for the good of others daily.<\/p>\n
Mara\u2019s Sylvester Taku says the company will additionally offer both businesses and individuals looking to pledge smartphones towards government\u2019s efforts to combat COVID-19 significant subsidies.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe first contribution is the donation of 500 devices to the Department of Health and the second contribution is the offer to subsidies Mara Phones to everyone who would like to purchase and donate a smartphone to essential workers, government or any entity or institution that is at the frontline of trying to contain the spread of this virus. \u201d<\/p>\n
Taku says the pledge to subsidise smartphones seeks to allow willing and able South Africans to contribute and participate towards containing and eradicating the spread of COVID-19<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are aware of the massive disruptions that everyone has incurred, and we appeal to organisations and individuals to take a moment to assist those people who are sacrificing being away from their families for the wellbeing of our country.\u201d<\/p>\n
As the only manufacturer to make smartphones locally Mara says it is committed to the creation of direct and indirect jobs in the supply chain of smartphones in South Africa, which is a top priority for the country.<\/p>\n
