Successfully doing business in an ongoing pandemic won\u2019t happen unless people are able to hold themselves and one another accountable, regardless of position or authority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vermaak says having proactive conversations with everyone about safety protocols and expected new behaviours is vital.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vermaak has provided five points for leaders to implement when creating a culture of accountability:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be kind and remind \u2013 don\u2019t be afraid to speak up, this is key to saving lives.<\/li>\n<li>Give gratitude, not attitude \u2013 when being reminded about following new behaviours or protocols, there should only be one response \u2013 \u201cthank you for reminding me\u201d followed by employee compliance.<\/li>\n<li>Launch COVID-19 training sessions \u2013 teach and model safety protocols and new behaviours.<\/li>\n<li>Implement inspections \u2013 leaders should randomly walk the work areas to observe the degree of protocol behaviour compliance. The purpose should be to observe, record and convey and not police and enforce.<\/li>\n<li>Keep a compliance scorecard \u2013 make it public, every day.
