Never take the sun for granted.

Bring your own bathing costumes.
If you want to buy them in peak season at a beach side shop, then be prepared to bring extra cash as well.

Bring your own sun block and medication.
Other than the crazy price of sun block during peak season here, visitors needing medication or emergency medical treatment will find their own medication and/or doctor familiar with them and their medical history a comfort rather than dealing with a stranger, particularly small children.

Limit your children's exposure to the sun.
Please don't let your young children burn so badly on the first day that their entire holiday is a nightmare of pain. Stay off the beach between 11:00 until 2:00 on hot days. The sun sets around 7:00 pm , so you can still enjoy the beach .

If the sea is rough keep your children out.
Beaches like Wilderness, Herolds Bay and Glentana can be unsafe when tides are high. Extremely strong currents suddenly appear in channels that during low tide can appear to be a tiny pool.

Water Safety
never leave small children alone anywhere near the waters edge, no matter how safe you think it is.

Never assume your family members can swim well. The sea is extremely dangerous. Watch them at all times. Every holiday, adults are rescued. Don't go too deep.

Blue bottle stings are common in December.
If you have children it would be wise to make sure you have some treatment from a pharmacy BEFORE you come to the beach. If the blue bottles are too visible, keep away from the beach.

Please keep public toilet facilities clean.
Don't throw plastic bags, half eaten hamburgers, chips, ice cream, paper cups, disposable nappies etc. into the toilet bowl.
Be Safe on the Sand.

The beach is a great place to take walks or play. Keep these tips in mind when you’re on the beach.
• Bring shoes or sandals to walk on hot sand. The dry, upper part of the beach can be quite hot on your feet. Even though the sand is very light colored, walking across it can feel like walking on a hot parking lot, and you can burn your feet. In fact, walking across parking lots and streets is another reason to have shoes or sandals handy.
• Watch for broken glass. People should avoid bringing glass to the beach, but they do. The soft, dry sand of the upper beach can hide sharp pieces of glass and shell.

Drive safely and obey the rules of the road wherever you are.
