You can recognize the plant easily &ndash; the grass is tall and evergreen. If taken with tea, it can reduce the occurrence of fever, coughs, and colds. Rich in Vitamin C and loaded with anti-oxidants, it combats the free radicals in your body. You can use lemon grass fresh or dried.<\/p>\n<p>Citronella is known for its calming effect that relieves insomnia or stress. It is also considered as a mild insect repellent. But more than scent, tang lad or lemon grass provides a lot of health benefits. Studies have shown that the lemon grass has antibacterial and antifungal properties. Mixed with pepper, it&#39;s a home therapy for menstrual troubles and nausea. Drank as tea, it is an effective diuretic. When it comes to pets, citronella is used to neutralize excessive barking of dogs. Since dogs hate citronella, it is sprayed to dogs to prevent them from barking or just to lessen the behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>The Lemon grass is a good cleanser that helps to detoxify the liver, pancreas, kidney, bladder and the digestive tract. It cuts down uric acid, cholesterol, excess fats and other toxins in the body while stimulating digestion, blood circulation, and lactation; it also alleviates indigestion and gastroenteritis. It is said that lemongrass also helps improve the skin by reducing acne and pimples and acts as a muscle and tissue toner. Also, it can reduce blood pressure. Just makea concoction by boiling some lemon grass leaves, let it cool for a while and drink the liquid.<\/p>\n<p>The leaves and base of this tender perennial are used as food flavouring, particularly in fish and poultry dishes, and its essential oils are used medicinally. Its distinctive flavour balances hot chillies and contributes to the elaborate, multi-layered flavours of many dishes in South East Asian cuisine.<\/p>\n<p>As the long, thin, grey-green leaves are tough and fibrous, the outside leaves and the tips are usually chopped very finely or discarded from the dish before it is served. The base is often ground. Citra, an essential oil also found in lemon peel, is the constituent responsible for its taste and aroma.<\/p>\n<p>Lemon grass for common colds and flu<\/p>\n<p>Lemon grass offers a highly effective cure for congestion, without any side effects. Boil water, add tea and lemon grass. Let it brew for a few minutes. Then strain it, add some honey and drink it without milk. If possible, drink a few cups a day. Lemon grass is known to bring relief to those nagging body aches you have when you&#39;re down with flu.<\/p>\n<p>Lemon grass for healthy skin and nails<\/p>\n<p>As lemon grass is loaded with Vitamin C, it works wonders for your skin and nails. You could blanch it in water and drink it many times a day or even soak your nails in it. This water could be used as a base for making a nourishing face pack with oatmeal. This will clear the dead skin cells of your face and leave it looking healthy and glowing.<\/p>\n<p>Lemon grass for cholesterol<\/p>\n<p>The thickening of the arteries with low-density lipoprotein (LDL), known as &#39;bad cholesterol&#39;, is harmful for the body. The antioxidants present in lemon grass help reduce this and even increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL) or &#39;good cholesterol&#39;. Doctors recommend that you drink tea made with lemon grass and honey every day for best effects.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure that you include lemon grass somewhere in your daily diet.
