Libya\u2019s parliament has voted to approve an interim unity government to lead the country to December elections. 121 of the 132 lawmakers present in parliament have approved the cabinet of interim Prime Minister Abdelhamid Dbeibah.<\/p>\n

Businessman, Dbeibah was selected last month at talks in Geneva, Switzerland. Al Jazeerah reports that he had last week presented his proposed cabinet to speaker Aguila Saleh. His proposed cabinet includes 33 ministers and two deputy prime ministers, representing Libya\u2019s different geographic areas and social sectors. Dbeibah, was appointed in February to lead the executive branch of an interim government which includes a three-member Presidential Council.<\/p>\n

While Saleh at the end of the vote declared, \u201cThis a historic day for the House of Representatives,\u201d according to Al Jazeera the way in which Dbeibeh had been appointed and the extensive size of his cabinet have invited criticism.<\/p>\n

There are concerns that accusations of corruption and influence-peddling, could result in Dbeibah\u2019s legitimacy being called into question by opponents.<\/p>\n

After Muammar Gaddafi, who had ruled Libya for 42 years, was toppled and killed in a 2011 NATO backed uprising in the country, Libya descended into chaos, and its yet to be seen whether the December election could resolve this.<\/p>\n
