Reuters reports that Tanzania’s main opposition leader, Tundu Lissu, said that President John Magufuli, is in India receiving medical treatment for a coronavirus infection.<\/p>\n
A resolute COVID-19 skeptic, Magufuli, is reportedly in a serious condition. Reuters reports he has been out of the public eye for almost two weeks now.<\/p>\n
Lissu, citing Kenyan medical and security sources, said that Magufuli had been flown to Kenya’s Nairobi Hospital at the beginning of this week and then on to an unknown destination in India. He claimed that Magufuli was in a coma. Meanwhile, Kenya’s Nation on Wednesday reported that an African leader, which it did not name, was on a ventilator at Nairobi Hospital.<\/p>\n
The 61-year-old was last seen during a ceremony at State House in Dar es Salaam on February 27. However, Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa told a congregation at a mosque on Friday that \u00a0Magufuli was “strong and working hard as usual.” He added, “I even talked with him this morning about my trip in Njombe and he told me to greet you on his behalf. I talked with him on phone from Dar es Salaam and I was in Dodoma.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reuters reports that representatives of Kenya’s and India’s governments would not provide information.<\/p>\n
