{"id":46624,"date":"2021-03-15T10:20:25","date_gmt":"2021-03-15T08:20:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radioislam.org.za\/a\/?p=46624"},"modified":"2021-03-15T10:20:25","modified_gmt":"2021-03-15T08:20:25","slug":"al-aqsa-the-blessed-land-part-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radioislam.org.za\/a\/al-aqsa-the-blessed-land-part-6\/","title":{"rendered":"Al-Aqsa: The Blessed Land: Part 6"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Virtues of Praying and Charity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ibn al-Jawz\u012b and Ab\u016b Bakr al-W\u0101s\u012bt\u012b stated that many scholars of Islam believe that it is not only the reward for prayers in al-\u1e24aram al-Shar\u012bf (al-Aq\u1e63\u0101 Sanctuary) that are multiplied as compared to prayers elsewhere, but the reward for all good deeds are multiplied. Similarly, the punishments for bad deeds in this Holy area are also believed to be multiplied. The rationale behind increasing the virtues is clearly to imbibe within the believers a sense of love, affection and a need to incline towards these Holy sites. The increased merits in praying at al-Aq\u1e63\u0101 Sanctuary are a clear signal for the believers to frequent al-Aq\u1e63\u0101 Sanctuary and ensure its well-being.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Virtues of praying <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ab\u016b Dard\u0101\u2019 (RA) relates that the Prophet \ufdfa said,<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cA prayer in Makkah is worth 100,000 times, a prayer in my Mosque (Madinah) is worth 1,000 times, and a prayer in al-Aq\u1e63\u0101 Sanctuary is worth 500 times, more than anywhere else\u201d.<\/em> [Al-\u1e6cabar\u0101n\u012b, al-Bayhaq\u012b and al-Suy\u016b\u1e6d\u012b]<\/p>\n<p>Abdull\u0101h ibn \u2018Umar (RA) relates, I asked the Prophet \ufdfa, \u201cApostle of Allah, tell us the legal injunction about (visiting) Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem).\u201d The Apostle of Allah \ufdfa said, <em>\u201cGo and pray there. If you cannot visit it and pray there, then send some oil to be used in the lamps\u201d.<\/em> [\u1e62a\u1e25\u012b\u1e25 al-Bukh\u0101r\u012b]<\/p>\n<p>Anas ibn M\u0101lik (RA) relates that the Prophet \ufdfa said,<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe prayer of a person in his house is a single prayer; his prayer in the Masjid of his tribe has the reward of twenty-five prayers; his prayer in the Masjid in which the Friday prayer is observed has the reward of five hundred; his prayer in the Masjid al-Aq\u1e63\u0101 (i.e. al-Aq\u1e63\u0101 Sanctuary) has a reward of five thousand prayers; his prayer in my Masjid (the Prophet\u2019s Masjid in Madinah) has a reward of fifty thousand prayers; and the prayer in the Sacred Masjid (Ka\u2018bah) at Makkah has a reward of one hundred thousand prayers\u201d.<\/em> [Tirmidh\u012b and Ibn M\u0101jah]<\/p>\n<p>Ab\u016b Dharr (RA) reported that he asked the Prophet \ufdfa, <em>\u201cO Prophet of Allah, which Masjid was built first on earth?\u201d The Prophet \uf065 replied, \u201cThe Sacred Masjid of Makkah\u201d. Ab\u016b Dharr again asked, \u201cWhich was next?\u201d The Prophet \uf065 said, \u201cThe Masjid al-Aq\u1e63\u0101\u201d. \u201cHow long was the period between them?\u201d Ab\u016b Dharr asked. The Prophet <\/em><em>\ufdfa<\/em><em> said, \u201cForty years\u201d. Apart from these, offer your prayers anywhere when it is time to pray, although excellence is in praying in these Masajids\u201d.<\/em> [\u1e62a\u1e25\u012b\u1e25 al-Bukh\u0101r\u012b]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Virtues of performing I\u2018tik\u0101f <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If a person makes a vow to perform i\u2018tik\u0101f (seclusion for worship) in the Masjid al-\u1e24aram (in Makkah), the Prophet\u2019s Masjid (in Madinah), or in the Masjid al-Aq\u1e63\u0101 (in Jerusalem), they should fulfil their vow, as the Prophet \ufdfa said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>One should not undertake journeys except to three mosques: the Masjid al\u1e24aram, the Masjid al-Aq\u1e63\u0101, or this Masjid (the Prophet\u2019s Masjid)\u201d. If someone vows to perform i\u2018tik\u0101f in another Masjid, it is not obligatory on him to fulfil it in that Masjid and he may perform that i\u2018tik\u0101f in any Masjid, for Allah did not specify any particular place for His worship, and there is no superiority of one Masjid over another (with the exception of the three Masajids mentioned earlier).<\/em> It has been confirmed that the Prophet \ufdfa said: \u201c<em>A prayer in my Masjid is superior to one thousand prayers in any other Masjid but the Masjid al-\u1e24aram (in Makkah), and a prayer in that Masjid is superior to a prayer in my Masjid by one hundred prayers\u201d.<\/em> Thus, if someone makes a vow to perform i\u2018tik\u0101f in the Prophet\u2019s Masjid, he may fulfil it in the Masjid al-\u1e24aram since that one is superior to the Prophet\u2019s Masjid.
