If it stops functioning (such as during cardiac arrest), your body begins systematically shutting down.<\/p>\n<p>Think of your body as a computer. Your brain is both the hard drive and the processor. It\u2019s where everything is stored, all programs, files, memory. So it is very important.<\/p>\n<p>The heart, however, is the power supply. And without the power supply, nothing else works. The system won\u2019t even turn on. Your heart creates actual electoral pulses that run through your body, supplying energy to everything.<\/p>\n<p>The thing is, if that power is turned off, everything doesn\u2019t just shut down; it starts to die. Your organs need a constant supply of blood and oxygen. When the heart stops, the body is getting neither blood nor oxygen.<\/p>\n<p>The heart is part of your body\u2019s circulatory system. It\u2019s made up of the atria, ventricles, valves, and various arteries and veins. The main function of your heart is to keep blood that\u2019s full of oxygen circulating throughout your body.<\/p>\n<p>The structure and functioning of the heart is too complicated to get into and especially not at this time of the morning, so let`s suffice by taking a look at some fun facts about the heart.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0The average heart is the size of a fist in an adult.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0An adult heart beats about 60 to 80 times per minute.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0New-borns hearts beat faster than adult hearts, about 70 to 190 beats per minute.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Your heart will beat about 115,000 times each day.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Your heart pumps about 2,000 gallons of blood every day.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0An electrical system controls the rhythm of your heart. It\u2019s called the cardiac conduction system.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0The heart can continue beating even when it\u2019s disconnected from the body.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0The first implantable pacemaker was used in 1958. Arne Larsson, who received the pacemaker, lived longer than the surgeon who implanted it. Larsson died at 86 of a disease that was unrelated to his heart.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0The youngest person to receive heart surgery was only a minute old. She had a heart defect that many babies don\u2019t survive. Her surgery was successful, but she\u2019ll eventually need a heart transplant.<\/li>\n<li>The earliest known case of heart disease was identified in the remains of a 3,500-year-old Egyptian mummy.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0The fairy fly, which is a kind of wasp, has the smallest heart of any living creature.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0The American pygmy shrew is the smallest mammal, but it has the fastest heartbeat at 1,200 beats per minute.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Whales have the largest heart of any mammal.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0The giraffe has a lopsided heart, with their left ventricle being thicker than the right. This is because the left side has to get blood up the giraffe\u2019s long neck to reach their brain.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0The heart weighs between about 10 to 12 ounces (280 to 340 grams) in men and 8 to 10 ounces (230 to 280 grams) in women.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0A woman\u2019s heart beats slightly faster than a man\u2019s heart. (Not surprised right!)<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0The beating sound of your heart is caused by the valves of the heart opening and closing.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0The heart pumps about 6 quarts (5.7 litres) of blood throughout the body.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0The heart is located in the centre of the chest, usually pointing slightly left.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0If you were to stretch out your blood vessel system, it would extend over 60,000 miles.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Heart cells stop dividing, which means heart cancer is extremely rare.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Laughing is good for your heart. When he refrains from it, seeks forgiveness and repents, his heart is polished clean. But if he returns, it increases until it covers his entire heart. Indeed excessive talking without remembrance of Allah hardens the heart.
