In recent years studies have shown that olive oil is rich in vitamin nutrients and has multiple healing effects on the body when used both internally and externally.

In countries like Greece, Italy and Spain, olive oil benefits aren't surprising. These countries know the beneficial effect on high blood cholesterol levels, cardiovascular diseases, earaches, constipation, stomach upset, dry skin and stretch marks.
The Prophet Muhammed S.A.W. has said." Take oil of Olive and massage with it – it is a blessed tree.

The Prophet Muhammed S.A.W. said. "Take Olive oil and massage. It helps cure in seventy ailments and also Juzam – leprosy. Narrated by Abu Nuaim.

Olive oil is one of those magical substances that is good for almost everything–your diet, your skin, your hands and nails, and your hair. Prized for its cosmetic uses since ancient times, olive oil is relatively inexpensive and can be purchased in most grocery stores.

Use extra virgin, as brands labelled "pure" and "light" have been chemically processed. Because the oil's fat composition is very similar to that of human skin, it rarely causes allergic reactions. In addition, it's absorbed quickly and helps lock in moisture in the skin. The high percentage of unsaturated fat and vitamins A and E, helpful in preventing sun damage, also work on the outside to soothe and replenish particularly sensitive skin. It is also pure, and unmixed with anything but water, unlike other oils.

Makeup Remover. Out of eye makeup remover? Not a problem. Dab a little olive oil on a cotton swab or tissue and smear away. It even removes waterproof mascara just as efficiently as the store-bought variety. You may find you love it enough to buy a cute storage bottle so you can keep it in the bathroom rather than dragging the big container out of the kitchen every night.

Skin Moisturizer. In a pinch, olive oil makes an acceptable moisturizer. In fact, there's an entire line of skin care based on
olive oil, so don't be embarrassed to make your own homemade moisturizer from it. Use it straight from the bottle before bedtime on clean skin for an overnight treat, or blend it with a bit of face lotion for a diluted version.
Hair Conditioner. Olive oil shines at this, and so will your hair.

Heat up a half cup in the microwave with a bit of rosemary (which stimulates the scalp). Comb it through freshly brushed hair and either let sit or, for a deep condition, wrap hair in a warm towel for 15 minutes. Then wash as usual. Beautifully soft, shiny hair.

Cuticle Treatment. Warm a bit of olive oil and rub into your cuticles. Let sit a few minutes till skin softens, then push back with an orange wood stick. Presto quick nail beauty. Skin softener. Add a few drops in the tub along with your bath bubbles and a little baking soda for a great soak that your skin will readily absorb. Soft legs in a relaxing flash.

Home Made Recipes
If you want to have smooth and fine nails olive oil is the best solution. A little care at home can help you to attain that
glamorous finished look at home, quite frugally. For a hydrating treatment for your hands while doing your dishes in the kitchen, cover your hands with a thick layer of lotion and wear latex cleaning gloves. The warm dishwater helps you to get the deep lotion treatment while gloves provide insulation of heat. Repeat it once or twice per week to get beautiful soft hands. Exfoliation to remove dead skin from your body and face can be done with a lot of things available in our kitchens. To keep your face naturally beautiful and free of any common skin problems, splash your face with warm water and massage it with a tablespoon of honey, which is antibacterial in nature, once or twice per week. The best and most inexpensive way to keep your skin healthy and glowing is to drink several glasses of water a day as it helps your body to flush away any impurities.

Instead of freaking over any freckles or aging signs that you can spot over your face and rushing off to costly beauty clinics, try fading them away with lemon juice instead. For scrubbing, rub olive oil over your body after the bath and then scrub sugar on the body until it melts. Then wash it away with water. It is quite effective for face and hands too. Look younger by preparing a mixture with equal parts of onion juice and vinegar and rubbing it over any aging signs daily.
However, it takes few weeks to achieve the desired results.

For filling up dry and cracked calluses on your hand and feet, use olive oil mixed with melted beeswax. Cover them up with cotton gloves or socks respectively. Spices and essential oils added to your bath water can make you fragrant for a long time. Put the moisture back into it by heating 1/2 cup olive oil (don't boil it), and then liberally applying it to your hair. Cover your hair with a plastic grocery bag, and then wrap it in a towel. Let it set for 45 minutes, then shampoo and thoroughly rinse.

Clear up acne
Okay, the notion of applying oil to your face to treat acne does sound a bit wacky. Still, many folks swear this works: Make a paste by mixing 4 tablespoons salt with 3 tablespoons olive oil. Pour the mixture onto your hands and fingers and work it around your face.

Leave it on for a minute or two, and then rinse it off with warm, soapy water. Apply daily for one week, then cut back to two or three times weekly. You should see a noticeable improvement in your condition. (The principle is that the salt cleanses the pores by exfoliation, while the olive oil restores the skin's natural moisture.)

—
Ammarah
Radio Islam
+27118547022
ammarah@radioislam.co.za
www.radioislam.co.za

Olive oil has long been thought to contain healing properties, and has been used for centuries for just that purpose.
