The reason for this journey is that after the defeat of Egypt and the destruction of the Egyptians, Allah ordered Musa \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 to remind his people of this blessing. So, he stood up and gave them an eloquent sermon, because of which hearts were softened and eyes shed tears. Then, they asked him, \u201cWho is the most knowledgeable of mankind?\u201d<\/p>\n
He replied, \u201cI am.\u201d
\nAnd in another narration, they asked, \u201cDo you know anyone more knowledgeable than yourself?\u201d<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cNo.\u201d
\nSo, Allah gently corrected him, because he did not refer the knowledge back to Allah (Honoured and Majestic is He). So, Allah revealed to him, \u201cI have a servant who is more knowledgeable than you. He is at the junction of the two seas.\u201d<\/p>\n
That servant is Khidr \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645. He was living before Musa \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645, and was living at the time that Dhul Qarnayn set out on his journey. And he remained living up until the time of Musa \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645.<\/p>\n
Ibn \u2018Abbas \u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647 has said:
\n\u201cMusa \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 asked his Lord, \u2018Which of Your slaves is more beloved to you?\u2019
\n\u201cAllah replied, \u2018He who remembers Me and does not forget Me.\u2019
\n\u201cMusa \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 said, \u2018Which of Your slaves is more judicious?\u2019
\n\u201cAllah replied, \u2018He who judges by the truth and does not follow his desires.\u2019
\n\u201cMusa \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 said, \u2018Which of Your slaves is more knowledgeable?\u2019
\n\u201cAllah said, \u2018He who learns knowledge from others, adding to his own knowledge. Perhaps he will receive a word that either guides or wards off from him destruction.\u2019
\nMusa \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 said, \u2018My Lord! If there is anyone among Your slaves who is more knowledgeable than me, indicate him to me.\u2019
\n\u201cAllah replied, \u2018Khidr is more knowledgeable than you.\u2019
\n\u201cMusa \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 said, \u2018Where should I seek him out?\u2019
\n\u201cAllah replied, \u2018On the ocean shore near to a large rock.\u2019
\n\u201cMusa \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 said, \u2018My Lord! How can I recognize him?\u2019
\n\u201cAllah said, \u2018Take a fish with you in a basket. Where you miss it, you will find him.\u2019
\n\u201cSo, Musa \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 took a roasted fish and placed it in his basket. Then, he said to his servant, \u201cWhen you miss this fish, inform me.\u201d So, they set out walking until they met Khidr.
