It is the only accepted species in the genus Cocos, and is a large palm, growing up to 30 m tall, with pinnate leaves 4&ndash;6 m long, and pinnae 60&ndash;90 cm long; old leaves break away cleanly, leaving the trunk smooth. The term coconut can refer to the entire coconut palm, the seed, or the fruit, which is not a botanical nut. The spelling coconut is an old-fashioned form of the word. <\/p>\n<p>The coconut palm is grown throughout the tropics for decoration, as well as for its many culinary and non-culinary uses; virtually every part of the coconut palm can be utilized by humans in some manner<\/p>\n<p>Coconut oil is extracted from the kernel or meat of matured coconut harvested from the coconut palm (Cocos nucifera). Throughout the tropical world it has provided the primary source of fat in the diets of millions of people for generations. It has various applications in food, medicine, and industry.<\/p>\n<p>The Indian state of Kerala is known as the Land of coconuts. The name derives from &quot;Kera&quot; (the coconut tree) and &quot;Alam&quot; ( &quot;place&quot; or &quot;earth&quot;). Kerala has beaches fringed by coconut trees, a dense network of waterways, flanked by green palm groves and cultivated fields. Coconuts form a part of daily diet, the oil is used for cooking, coir is used for furnishing, decorating, etc.<\/p>\n<p>It is becoming more apparent that coconut oil is very beneficial for use in cooking, but did you know that the super versatile oil makes for the ideal substance to use for moisturizing and restoring your skin?<\/p>\n<p>Here are some skin care benefits of coconut oil&hellip;<\/p>\n<p>An excellent moisturiser that quickly absorbs into the skin, making it soft but not greasy. Give yourself a head massage using the fleshy parts of the fingertips, moving in a circular motion across the scalp. Leave the oil on for at least an hour (or sleep with it on for a deep healing treatment) and then shampoo. The coconut oil rejuvenates depleted hair and leaves the scalp smelling of lush locales.<\/p>\n<p>If you are suffering from any skin disease like eczema or psoriasis, directly apply coconut oil to the affected area as it can help you to effectively ward off the malaise. At the same time it would also be effective for reduction of any scar that your skin might have.<\/p>\n<p>There are a number of ways you can use coconut oil on your skin. Here&#39;s one method I use in the shower for a daily deep moisturizing and conditioning treatment:<\/p>\n<p>Shower and exfoliate all over your body.<\/p>\n<p>While still in the shower take a quarter size amount of virgin coconut oil and rub between your palms to liquefy.<\/p>\n<p>Massage the coconut oil onto your skin. Repeat this procedure until your entire body is covered in coconut oil.<\/p>\n<p>Be careful not to get oil on the bottom of your soles as the coconut oil may make the tub surface slippery.<\/p>\n<p>After covering your body in coconut oil rinse warm water all over your body. You&#39;ll see the water form little beads all over your body.<\/p>\n<p>Step out of the shower and use your towel to gently pat dry your skin. Make sure you pat dry and don&#39;t rub.
