The Practical \u201cClasses\u201d Commence

\nAnd so the two went on their way, till [they reached the seashore; and] when they disembarked from the boat [that had ferried them across], Khadir made a hole in it – [whereupon Musa \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645] exclaimed: “Hast thou made a hole in it in order to drown the people who may be [travelling] in it? Indeed, thou hast done a grievous thing!” [Al Kahf 18:71]<\/p>\n
Prophet Musa \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 \u2018protested\u2019 at the way Khadir was, \u2018apparently\u2019, returning the good deed done to them by the people on the boat \u2013 who let them take a ride on it,- by making a hole in it. As we know, making a hole in a boat makes it completely useless, because it can cause those riding in it to drown.<\/p>\n
Musa \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 was sincere at heart, which was why he could not adhere to his earlier claim of not asking Khadir any questions about what he saw him doing. He was promptly reprimanded by his teacher\/mentor:<\/p>\n
\u0642\u064e\u0627\u0644\u064e \u0623\u064e\u0644\u064e\u0645\u0652 \u0623\u064e\u0642\u064f\u0644\u0652 \u0625\u0650\u0646\u064e\u0651\u0643\u064e \u0644\u064e\u0646 \u062a\u064e\u0633\u0652\u062a\u064e\u0637\u0650\u064a\u0639\u064e \u0645\u064e\u0639\u0650\u064a\u064e \u0635\u064e\u0628\u0652\u0631\u064b\u0627
\nHe replied: \u201cDid I not tell you that you will never be able to have patience with me?\u201d [Al Kahf 18: 72]
\nThe sincere student (who, remember, happens to be Allah\u2019s Prophet) immediately realizes and admits his unintentional slip, then seeks forgiveness and pardon from his teacher:<\/p>\n
\u0642\u064e\u0627\u0644\u064e \u0644\u064e\u0627 \u062a\u064f\u0624\u064e\u0627\u062e\u0650\u0630\u0652\u0646\u0650\u064a \u0628\u0650\u0645\u064e\u0627 \u0646\u064e\u0633\u0650\u064a\u062a\u064f \u0648\u064e\u0644\u064e\u0627 \u062a\u064f\u0631\u0652\u0647\u0650\u0642\u0652\u0646\u0650\u064a \u0645\u0650\u0646\u0652 \u0623\u064e\u0645\u0652\u0631\u0650\u064a \u0639\u064f\u0633\u0652\u0631\u064b\u0627
\nMusa \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 said: “Pardon my forgetfulness, and do not be angry with me on account of this mistake.” [Al Kahf 18: 73]
\nThankfully, Khadir granted him pardon and took him along for further learning:<\/p>\n
\u0641\u064e\u0627\u0646\u0637\u064e\u0644\u064e\u0642\u064e\u0627 \u062d\u064e\u062a\u064e\u0651\u0649 \u0625\u0650\u0630\u064e\u0627 \u0644\u064e\u0642\u0650\u064a\u064e\u0627 \u063a\u064f\u0644\u064e\u0627\u0645\u064b\u0627 \u0641\u064e\u0642\u064e\u062a\u064e\u0644\u064e\u0647\u064f \u0642\u064e\u0627\u0644\u064e \u0623\u064e\u0642\u064e\u062a\u064e\u0644\u0652\u062a\u064e \u0646\u064e\u0641\u0652\u0633\u064b\u0627 \u0632\u064e\u0643\u0650\u064a\u064e\u0651\u0629\u064b \u0628\u0650\u063a\u064e\u064a\u0652\u0631\u0650 \u0646\u064e\u0641\u0652\u0633\u064d \u0644\u064e\u0651\u0642\u064e\u062f\u0652 \u062c\u0650\u0626\u0652\u062a\u064e \u0634\u064e\u064a\u0652\u0626\u064b\u0627 \u0646\u064f\u0651\u0643\u0652\u0631\u064b\u0627
\n\u201cAnd so the two went on, till, when they met a young man, Khadir killed him, [whereupon Musa] exclaimed: \u201cHave you slain an innocent human being without [his having taken] another man\u2019s life? Indeed, you have done a terrible thing!\u201d [Al Kahf 18: 74]
\nOnce again, Prophet Musa \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 was not able to contain himself, and he protested about this apparently undeserved death in shock. He once again got promptly reprimanded, with Khadir reminding him how he had correctly predicted Musa\u2019s \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 lack of patience (\u0635\u064e\u0628\u0652\u0631):<\/p>\n
\u0642\u064e\u0627\u0644\u064e \u0623\u064e\u0644\u064e\u0645\u0652 \u0623\u064e\u0642\u064f\u0644 \u0644\u064e\u0651\u0643\u064e \u0625\u0650\u0646\u064e\u0651\u0643\u064e \u0644\u064e\u0646 \u062a\u064e\u0633\u0652\u062a\u064e\u0637\u0650\u064a\u0639\u064e \u0645\u064e\u0639\u0650\u064a \u0635\u064e\u0628\u0652\u0631\u064b\u0627
\nHe replied: \u201cDid I not tell you that you will never be able to have patience with me?\u201d [Al Kahf 18: 75]<\/p>\n
Realizing his folly, Prophet Musa \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 pleaded with Khadir to let him continue in his company, and in his zeal to prove his sincere regret at breaking the preset rule, and his resolve to not ask any more questions\/voice any protests, he made his mentor an offer:<\/p>\n

\nMusa \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 said: \u201cIf, after this, I should ever question you, keep me not in your company: [for by] now you have heard enough excuses from me.\u201d [Al Kahf 18: 76]

\n\u201cAnd so the two went on, till, when they came upon some village people, they asked them for food; but those [people] refused them all hospitality. And they saw in that (village) a wall which was on the point of tumbling down, and [Khadir] rebuilt it [whereupon Musa] said: \u201cHad you so wished, surely you could [at least] have obtained some payment for it?\u201d [Al Kahf 18: 77]

\nKhadir replied: \u201cThis is the parting of ways between me and you. [And now] I shall let you know the real meaning of all [those events] that you were unable to bear with patience.\u201d [Al Kahf 18: 78]<\/p>\n
As per their agreement, this third, involuntary lapse of patience meant an end to his lessons with Khadir.
