This week I came across an article by a scholar that hit a nerve and stirred up some emotions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this article, the Qari alluded to us complaining about the price of livestock for our sacrifice, always on the lookout for the cheapest options, whilst in the same breath, we will spend on clothing and food and go out of our way to make this day special.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I realised how right he was as, in many Muslim homes, the topic of conversation is the price of livestock. In the same houses, many children will wear the latest sneakers and clothing, and meals fit for kings will be prepared and served.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Is this the true spirit of Eid-ul Adha? Where and how did we lose our way when it comes to Qurbani?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Let us remember that this day is fardh upon those who can afford it, that this is our test on how we can part with money. It\u2019s a sacrifice that we were supposed to feel.<\/span><\/p>\n

As years pass by, this day will become just a typical day in our children\u2019s lives; it is up to us as parents to ensure that we keep Islam alive and not just do things because our forefathers told us to do so. Ensure you take your children to volunteer on farms, learn how to cut a sheep and assist.<\/span><\/p>\n
