President Cyril Ramaphosa held another \u2018family meeting\u2019 last night to announce the government\u2019s implementation plan on the recommendations of the Zondo Commission. One of the significant developments stemming from the recommendations is that the NPA\u2019s Investigating Directorate will be made permanent with powers similar to those of the disbanded Scorpions.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Radio Islam International<\/em>, Outa Executive Director: Accountability Division Advocate Stefanie Fick said the recommendations are very similar to the advice the State Capture Commission gave.<\/p>\n

According to Fick, there was no impression of actual plans for implementation as that is what is needed.<\/p>\n

She said there were a few issues which the President had not addressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a clear divide between the political implementation that needs to happen as a ruling party versus recommendations that we see is already happening.\u201d<\/p>\n

The President states that government accepts the Commission\u2019s recommendation on the need for a process for the appointment of the board of state-owned enterprises that is not open to manipulation, including the involvement of independent panels with appropriate technical expertise to recommend suitable candidates to the relevant minister.<\/p>\n

According to Fick, the statement is regurgitating what the State Capture has already said.<\/p>\n

She says, \u201cWe would have liked to hear how? And what are the plans the President is going to ensure that this happens?<\/p>\n

Fick added that implementation plans have lacked what the President announced last night.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, there is the acknowledgement that whistle-blowers need protection. Fick said parliament has a constitutional duty toward doing things that are not done correctly.<\/p>\n
