If you feel like this most of the time, however, you may be burned out.<\/p>\n<p>Burnout is a gradual process. It doesn&#8217;t happen overnight, but it can creep up on you. The signs and symptoms are subtle at first, but become worse as time goes on. Think of the early symptoms as red flags that something is wrong that needs to be addressed. If you pay attention and actively reduce your stress, you can prevent a major breakdown. If you ignore them, you\u2019ll eventually burn out.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Physical signs and symptoms of burnout<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Feeling tired and drained most of the time.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Lowered immunity, frequent illnesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Frequent headaches or muscle pain.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Change in appetite or sleep habits.<\/p>\n<p>Emotional signs and symptoms of burnout<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Sense of failure and self-doubt.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Feeling helpless, trapped, and defeated.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Detachment, feeling alone in the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Loss of motivation.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Increasingly cynical and negative outlook.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Decreased satisfaction and sense of accomplishment.<\/p>\n<p>Behavioural signs and symptoms of burnout<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Withdrawing from responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Isolating yourself from others.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Procrastinating, taking longer to get things done.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Using food, drugs, or alcohol to cope.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Taking out your frustrations on others.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Skipping work or coming in late and leaving early.<\/p>\n<p>There are some important questions which you need to ask yourself:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Have you become cynical or critical at work?<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Do you drag yourself to work and have trouble getting started?<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Have you become irritable or impatient with co-workers, customers or clients?<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Do you lack the energy to be consistently productive?<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Do you find it hard to concentrate?<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Do you lack satisfaction from your achievements?<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Do you feel disillusioned about your job?<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Are you using food, drugs or alcohol to feel better or to simply not feel?<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Have your sleep habits changed?<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Are you troubled by unexplained headaches, stomach or bowel problems, or other physical complaints?<\/p>\n<p>If you answered yes to any of these questions, you might be experiencing job burnout.
