Baby powder, dusted on both the ants when you see them, and at their entry point into your house.<\/p>\n

Spray white vinegar mixed with water to get rid of the ants' scent trails – if they can't smell their scent trails, they'll stop coming around.<\/p>\n

 Even more ant-fighting power: vinegar and water, with about ten drops of tea tree oil mixed in. This is an excellent cleaner, disinfectant, and deodorizer.
 Place bay leaves or cloves at their point of entry. Ants hate the scent of these, and will avoid them.<\/p>\n

 You can also try sprinkling cayenne pepper at their point of entry.
If ants are coming in through doors or windows, put a cinnamon stick across the path. They will not cross it<\/p>\n

Ants hate Vicks VapoRub Ointment. Dab that where you see them entering your house.  Sprinkle baby powder, salt, or cinnamon underneath doors to keep ants out.
If you see a trail of ants coming into your house from a wall or underneath a door, simply sprinkle Cinnamon at that place in the wall. Or, sprinkle a thin line of Cinnamon across the threshold of the door. Ants don't like the spice at all, so they'll retreat from invading your home.<\/p>\n

Sprinkle an aromatic ground spice such as cinnamon, cumin, cayenne pepper, etc. around areas where the ants are coming in and in all cracks and holes, they do not like these spices and normally won't cross the line after a little while. Also sprinkle the spices around the perimeter of your house to create a barrier. Peppermint, spearmint, lavender, sage, and other aromatic herbs work well too, place them in cabinets, on door jambs, under rugs, etc. to keep the ants unsatisfied with your home. Fresh squeezed lemon also works well for around doors and windows.<\/p>\n

Planting aromatic herbs and plants around the perimeter of your home can significantly reduce the number of ants trying to invade. The more barriers you setup the fewer ants will cross. Some good plants for this purpose are lavender, chili peppers, garlic, rosemary, eucalyptus, clove, lemon balm, cedar, mint varieties, and geraniums.<\/p>\n

Vinegar
Wipe down your countertops, cupboards and any other places where you've spotted ants with a 50-50 mixture of white vinegar and water. Repeat throughout the day to maintain the efficacy.
Why This Works: Two reasons, really: ants hate the smell of vinegar, and it removes the scent trails that they use to get around
Coffee Grounds
Sprinkle your used coffee grounds in the garden and around the outside of your house.
Why This Works: Ants are repelled by the scent given off by the grounds; and incidentally, so are cats<\/p>\n

Cucumber\/Citrus Peels
Leave the peelings in areas of known ant activity.
Why This Works: Cucumber and citrus peels are toxic to the types of fungi that ants feed on, and therefore avoided by the ants.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
