South Africans should accept that they will experience Stage 2 and 3 load shedding for at least the next two years, if not at higher stages. Mpho Makwana, the Head of the Eskom Board, and CEO Andre de Ruyter spoke to the media on Sunday to provide an update on the power company’s difficulties.<\/span><\/p>\n

Makwana contends that to give the utility the time it needs to do essential maintenance on the overburdened system and to give South Africans uniformity in outages, permanent load-shedding is required.<\/span><\/p>\n

In an interview with Radio Islam International on Monday, January 23, 2023, energy expert Chris Yelland urged people to expecting the load shedding to ease, as it all hinges on the sporadic breakdown of generation units and how quickly they can be restored.<\/span><\/p>\n

“It is unpredictable, and Eskom makes this point time and time again. Nobody can say what it is going to be today, tomorrow, or in the next few days.” It all depends on the random breakdowns of the generation unit and how quickly they can be restored.”<\/span><\/p>\n

He made it clear that load shedding was erratic and that he doesn’t think this year will be much better than last.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We are in this for the long haul, so do not expect load shedding to end abruptly.” It is not possible, and fixing it will take some time.”<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to warning that there would be frequent load shedding in the future, he urged people to stay upbeat about finding resolutions.<\/span><\/p>\n
