South Africans may be excused for believing they were watching a soap opera as political parties played dirty in Tuesday’s debate on the nation’s state.<\/p>\n

Police Minister Bheki Cele accused EFF Secretary-General Marshall Dlamini of lying about the claims that IFP leaders allegedly plotted his assassination.<\/p>\n

Additionally, he said that John Steenhuisen, the leader of the Democratic Alliance, had abused a young woman who worked in his office before divorcing his wife and getting married to her.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, John Steenhuisen, head of the DA, referred to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s administration as “the catastrophic regime in recent years.”<\/p>\n

Looking back on Ramaphosa’s presidency through the lens of this year’s SONA, he said, they “arrive at one, inescapable conclusion” that he was guilty of something even worse than what he once accused Zuma of.<\/p>\n

“For if President Zuma presided over nine wasted years, then President Ramaphosa has presided over five disastrous years.”<\/p>\n

“If you thought we “lost some gains” under Zuma, then under this administration, we have only gained losses,” said Steenhuisen.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Jacob Zuma was a more corrupt president than Ramaphosa, according to North West lecturer Prof Andre Duvenhage, who spoke to Radio Islam International.<\/p>\n

“I will not like to compare Ramaphosa in person with Zuma; I honestly believe that Jacob Zuma was, at best, a corrupt leader.”<\/p>\n

I do not think the same about Ramaphosa, at least not as far as internal South African politics are concerned.<\/p>\n

However, he asserted that Ramaphosa’s lack of presence in the office was his greatest challenge as president.<\/p>\n

Duvenhage accused Ramaphosa of being unable to make decisions for the country.<\/p>\n

“He speaks to the nation but does nothing.”<\/p>\n

According to him, the critical issue is whether, which is terrible for the country, a corrupt president or an absent president.<\/p>\n
