According to outgoing Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter, rolling blackouts will continue nationwide until Wednesday evening, followed by Stage 4 and Stage 3 on the weekend. He updated the country regarding the system challenges that led to the current high levels of load shedding.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Monique Le Roux, a senior researcher at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) with expertise in energy systems, told Radio Islam International that stage 8 load shedding is very likely this year, especially during the winter when electricity demand is high.<\/span><\/div>\n

“Based on the data we have and the analysis we conducted, it is likely that we will have stage 8 load shedding sometime this year, most likely during the winter when demand is at its peak.”<\/span><\/div>\n

“Our data also show that Eskom intends to reduce planned maintenance during winter. This week, they reduced maintenance to avoid stage 8 load shedding, but in the winter, we don’t have that because demand is high, and they don’t have a lot of planned maintenance.<\/span><\/div>\n

According to Le Roux, stage 8 power cuts mean 12\u201314 hours of no electricity daily.<\/span><\/div>\n
