Add the oil and essence and mix. Sift flour and baking powder and add salt, chopped dates and ground spices. Mix together creamed &ndash; mixture and dry ingredients until mixture has a crumbly texture. Add the egg and mix to form firm dough. Roll dough and sprinkle surface with some chopped walnuts and post toasties. Press lightly down into dough with rolling pin. Cut our rounds and place on baking tray.
