On Monday, the uGu District in the south of Durban experienced heavy rains causing flooding in the region. While there were reports of flooding and some infrastructure damage in Port Shepstone, there were no injuries.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the weather service issued Orange Level 6 and Yellow Level 2 warnings for disruptive rain and localised flooding in the extreme south-eastern parts of the province, with Ugu and eThekwini Municipalities, flagged.<\/span><\/p>\n

Later in the day, the South African Weather Services confirmed a tornado that swept through the Inanda and Phoenix, north of Durban.<\/span><\/p>\n

By late afternoon heavy rains and winds reached the eThekweni Metro, and last night several areas were flooded, including Shallcross, Overport and Pinetown.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a statement on Tuesday, hours after the weather alerts were issued, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesperson Prem Balram reported a man was presumed to have drowned while attempting to traverse a river in Zwelisha after it swelled rapidly during Tuesday afternoon\u2019s heavy downpour.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nonala Ndlovu, Chief Director of Communications for the KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance Department (COGTA), said yesterday that all disaster management services had been activated in Ugu and eThekwini.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wet conditions are expected to persist along the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday, according to the weather office.<\/span><\/p>\n
