Malvern De Bruyn, Provincial Secretary of COSATU, speaking to Radio Islam International, says that the tariff increase in the Western Cape indicates that no one cares about people experiencing poverty, even in the new democracy we supposedly live under.<\/span><\/p>\n

The trade union has sent a letter to the city requesting a meeting to discuss these issues in person. De Bruyn strongly believes that if the council wishes to reverse the tariff increase, they can because the increase is very high for residents in the Western Cape.<\/span><\/p>\n

Several political parties have also expressed their discontent with the tariff increase as well as several communities.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the 9th of August, COSATU will join the residents in a protest against the increase.<\/span><\/p>\n
