While the crescent moon might not be an official symbol of Islam, as we explained yesterday, however, the moon was certainly used by Almighty Allah as a proof of His greatness and the truth of the prophet hood of His Final Prophet, Muhammed\u00a0\ufdfa<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is in reference to the amazing incident of the Splitting of the Moon.<\/span><\/p>\n

Allah speaks of it in the Holy Quraan:<\/span><\/p>\n

The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has split.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yet when they see a sign, the unbelievers turn their backs and say: “This is an ingenious magic.”<\/span><\/p>\n

They rejected \u02f9the truth\u02fa and followed their own desires \u2014 and every matter will be settled \u2014 [al Qamr54: 1 – 3]<\/span><\/p>\n

The moon split in two was one of the many miracles attributed to Prophet Muhammad\u00a0\ufdfa<\/span>. By Allah\u2019s permission, this miracle was performed during a night of the full moon in Makkah when the Prophet\u00a0\ufdfa<\/span>\u00a0was challenged by the disbelievers to prove his prophet hood.<\/span><\/p>\n

How did the miracle of the moon splitting occur?<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The miracle of the splitting of the moon occurred before the migration to Madinah, and was done upon the demands of the polytheists with the permission of Allah and it was shown by the prophet Muhammad (\ufdfa<\/span>) as narrated by many of his companions.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Quraysh polytheists said to the Prophet Muhammad (\ufdfa<\/span>):<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf you truly are a Prophet that has been appointed by Allah, then split the moon in half. Let it be in such a way that one half will appear over the Mount Abu Qubais and the other half will be seen over Mount Quayqian.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The prophet Muhammad\u00a0\ufdfa<\/span>\u00a0asked:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf I do it, will you become Muslims?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The polytheists answered:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes, we will.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The people of Makkah asked Allah\u2019s Messenger (\ufdfa<\/span>) to show them a miracle. So, he showed them the moon split in two halves between which they saw the Hira\u2019 mountain. [Bukhari 3868]<\/span><\/p>\n

During the lifetime of Allah\u2019s Messenger (\ufdfa<\/span>) the moon was split into two parts; one part remained over the mountain, and the other part went beyond the mountain. On that, Allah\u2019s Messenger (\ufdfa<\/span>) said, \u201cWitness this miracle.\u201d [Bukhari 3636]<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the polytheists said \u201cMuhammad cast a spell on us!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Narrated Muhammad bin Jubair bin Mut\u2019im R from his father who said:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe moon was split during the time of the Messenger of Allah (\ufdfa<\/span>) until it became as two sections, one above this mountain and one above that mountain. So, they said: \u2018Muhammad has cast a spell upon us.\u2019 Some of them said: \u2018If he could cast a spell upon us, he cannot cast a spell upon all of the people.’\u201d [At-Tirmidhi 3289]<\/span><\/p>\n

They asked the people who came from every everywhere.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes! We also did see the moon in that state! We saw the moon as split! They informed that the moon was split. [Bayhaqi]<\/span><\/p>\n

So, the moon is not only a means of light, and of calculating months and years, but also it was used by Allah to manifest one of the great miracles of Nabi\u00a0\ufdfa<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
