Commuters on the Kwa-Mashu Corridor will soon enjoy the benefits of the new Electric Motor Units, which have been approved to run a commercial service between Dalbridge and Bridge City.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new trains, part of PRASA\u2019s modernisation and improvement of passenger rail services, have built-in safety features such as on-board CCTV cameras, an anti-crash system, wider doors and air-conditioning. They also have Voice Alert and Information Display Systems to help commuters get off at the right destination.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to a statement from PRASA on Friday, the new trains, which are blue and white and known as Isitimela Sabantu, will start running on the Kwa-Mashu Corridor from Friday, 25 August 2023, during off-peak. The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) has issued a No-Objection certificate for this service.<\/span><\/p>\n

The blue and white trains are already operating on the Southern Corridor between Durban and Umbogintwini and Durban to Cato Ridge lines.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThese trains are the most advanced passenger trains in the country, and they significantly improve the passenger experience,\u201d said PRASA Group CEO Hishaam Emeran.<\/span><\/p>\n

He added that peak services on the Kwa-Mashu Corridor with the new trains will be announced soon, subject to RSR approval.<\/span><\/p>\n

He also said that this financial year, plans are underway to recover the Durban to Crossmoor and Durban to Pinelands services.<\/span><\/p>\n
