This disclosure comes on the heels of the dissolution of the Durban-based ANC branch, which Duduzane chaired in December 2021.

In an interview on Radio Islam International, political analyst Dr Ntsikelelo Breakfast discussed the motivations and implications surrounding Duduzane’s political ambitions.

Dr Breakfast noted that there is a growing perception of Duduzane Zuma gaining national prominence, capitalising on his father’s legacy. Some individuals, disenchanted with the current ANC leadership, seek to weaken the ANC’s grip on power to substantiate claims that the party is headed in the wrong direction, under the stewardship of the wrong leaders.

Dr Breakfast emphasised the paradox of creating multiple political parties, such as ATM (African Transformation Movement), and Ace Magashule’s party ACT (African Congress for Transformation). He suggested that this strategy fragments the political spectrum and divides the electorate’s vote. While discontent with the ANC is palpable, the tactic of forming numerous competing parties may inadvertently undermine efforts to pose a credible threat to the ANC’s dominance.

Dr Breakfast expressed scepticism regarding Duduzane’s nationwide support base, suggesting that his appeal might be more localised, concentrated in areas where his father, Jacob Zuma, holds sway. He also raised questions about Duduzane’s political acumen and understanding of intricate political issues, positing that he may lack the depth required for effective leadership.

A significant challenge facing Duduzane Zuma is his close association with the controversial Gupta family. Dr Breakfast opined that rational voters may find it challenging to overlook this connection, given the cloud of controversy enveloping the Guptas. He also questioned the efficacy of Duduzane’s attempts to portray himself as a victim in the face of legal challenges.

Listen to the full interview on Sabaahul Muslim with Apa Annisa Essack:

Sameera Casmod | | sameerac@radioislam.co.za 3 October 2023 | 09:32am SAST 1-min read It has been revealed that former President Jacob Zuma’s son, Duduzane Zuma, is reportedly planning to establish a political party and is considering an independent run under the banner “DZ24”.
