{"id":83084,"date":"2023-10-09T08:57:12","date_gmt":"2023-10-09T06:57:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/radioislam.org.za\/a\/?p=83084"},"modified":"2023-10-09T08:57:12","modified_gmt":"2023-10-09T06:57:12","slug":"what-is-mental-health-part-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radioislam.org.za\/a\/what-is-mental-health-part-1\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Mental Health &#8211; Part 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\" align=\"center\"><b><i><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">10 October is World Mental Health Day<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">The overall objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">The Day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\" align=\"center\"><b><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">World Mental Health Day, 10 October 2023<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\" align=\"center\"><b><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">\u201cOur minds, our rights&#8221;<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">World Mental Health Day 2023 is an opportunity for people and communities to unite behind the theme \u2018Mental health is a universal human right\u201d to improve knowledge, raise awareness and drive actions that promote and protect everyone\u2019s mental health as a universal human right.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Mental health is a basic human right for all people. Everyone, whoever and wherever they are, has a right to the highest attainable standard of mental health. This includes the right to be protected from mental health risks, the right to available, accessible, acceptable, and good quality care, and the right to liberty, independence and inclusion in the community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Good mental health is vital to our overall health and well-being. Yet one in eight people globally are living with mental health conditions, which can impact their physical health, their well-being, how they connect with others, and their livelihoods.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Mental health conditions are also affecting an increasing number of adolescents and young people.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Having a mental health condition should never be a reason to deprive a person of their human rights or to exclude them from decisions about their own health. Yet all over the world, people with mental health conditions continue to experience a wide range of human rights violations. Many are excluded from community life and discriminated against, while many more cannot access the mental health care they need or can only access care that violates their human rights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">WHO continues to work with its partners to ensure mental health is valued, promoted, and protected, and that urgent action is taken so that everyone can exercise their human rights and access the quality mental health care they need.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Key facts<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Affordable, effective and feasible strategies exist to promote, protect and restore mental health.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">The need for action on mental health is indisputable and urgent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Mental health has intrinsic and instrumental value and is integral to our well-being.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Mental health is determined by a complex interplay of individual, social and structural stresses and vulnerabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpLast\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Mental health disorders increase the risk for other diseases and contribute to unintentional and intentional injury.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>10 October is World Mental Health Day The overall objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health.
