The International Court of Justice on Friday delivered its ruling on the interim measures requested by South Africa.<\/p>\n

South Africa views the case of genocide against Israel as a victory, because regardless of the outcome, South Africa took a stand against Israeli actions in Gaza, which is crucial for upholding principles of justice and human rights.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s given it, one, in keeping with its very principles, moral stance now 30 years into its democracy. And also, secondly, mainly because it has now enhanced its soft power- the Arab regime did not do this and it was actually South Africa that that took Israel to the court of justice,\u201d Hafez Ibrahim said on the Media Lens<\/a> on Radio Islam International.<\/p>\n

The significance of the ruling lies in challenging traditional political biases, with 90% of decisions typically influenced by political perspectives, Hafez Deen noted.<\/p>\n

The ruling also prompted a slight change in the media narrative, with some organisations revising coverage to reflect the gravity of the situation in Gaza. A report published today, for instance, focused on the widespread house demolitions and the destruction of over 50% (which is in reality between 70 and 80%), bringing attention to the urgent need for action.<\/p>\n

While Western powers continue to support Israel, there are some signs of change in South Africa, with some political parties adopting a neutral stance as opposed to their initial pro-Israeli one. The ICJ\u2019s acknowledgement of Israel\u2019s perpetration of genocidal actions in Gaza makes it difficult for supporters to maintain their pro-Israeli position.<\/p>\n

Hafez Deen noted that the emergence of a non-aligned movement supportive of the Palestinian cause signals a shift in global perceptions and priorities.<\/p>\n
