{"id":8698,"date":"2007-09-03T04:52:13","date_gmt":"2007-09-03T02:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.radioislam.org.za\/wordpress\/2007\/09\/03\/walnut-cinnamon-pie\/"},"modified":"2007-09-03T04:52:13","modified_gmt":"2007-09-03T02:52:13","slug":"walnut-cinnamon-pie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radioislam.org.za\/a\/walnut-cinnamon-pie\/","title":{"rendered":"Walnut Cinnamon Pie"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div align=\"justify\"> <\/div>\n<p class=\"style1\" align=\"justify\"><span class=\"style2\">Ingredients <\/span><br \/> For the Crust <br \/>  21\/2 cups self raising flour <br \/>2 Tblsp sugar <br \/> \u00bd tsp salt <br \/> \u00be tsp ground cinnamon powder <br \/>1 cup (2 sticks) cold butter cut into pieces <br \/>4 to 6 tblsp ice water <br \/> <b><br \/> For the Filling<\/b> <br \/>10 cups sliced apples <br \/>1 tblsp fresh lemon juice <br \/> \u00bd cup sugar <br \/>3 tblsp quick cooking tapioca (sago) <br \/> 1 \u00bd tsp ground cinnamon <br \/> \u00bd tsp ground nutmeg <br \/> \u00bd cup coarsely chopped toasted walnuts <br \/>1.4 cup chopped crystallized ginger or heaped tsp ground ginger <br \/>2 tblsp butter cut into pieces <\/p>\n<div align=\"justify\"> <\/div>\n<p class=\"style1\" align=\"justify\">Milk and sugar <\/p>\n<p> <span class=\"style2\">Method <\/span><br \/> <b>Crust:<\/b><br \/>  1. Combine flour sugar salt and cinnamon in food processor. <br \/>2. Add butter process until mixture looks like bread crumbs.<br \/>3. With the machine running add water, 1 tblsp at a time. <br \/>4. Process until dough holds together. <br \/>5. Shape dough into two flat discs wrap in plastic and refrigerate for <br \/>1 hour or overnight. <br \/> <b><br \/> Filling:<\/b><br \/>  1. Toss apples with lemon juice in a large bowl. <br \/> 2. Combine sugar sago cinnamon and nutmeg &amp; sprinkle over Apples with walnuts and ginger, toss until all are well Coated. <br \/>3. Preheat oven to 425 degrees and then roll half of the dough on a lightly floured surface to make a 13 inch circle. Line a 9 inch pie plate and trim off any excess. <br \/>4. Arrange apple mixture in pie plate and dot with butter. <br \/>5. Roll remaining dough to 12 inch circle and cover pie. <br \/>6. Seal all edges and brush crust lightly with milk. <br \/>7. Decorate the top of the pie with leaf cutouts. <br \/>8. Sprinkle entire pie lightly with sugar. <br \/>9. Bake for 15 minutes then reduce oven to 350degrees.
