As the results trickle in at the IEC’s ROC centres, the nation is captivated by the numbers flashing on the big screens. This is a testament to the IEC’s crucial role in our democratic process, as it reflects voters’ choices in Wednesday’s elections. It’s clear that the ANC is facing a challenging situation.<\/p>\n

The elections are done and dusted. However, many political parties and voters were not impressed by how the IEC ran the elections.<\/p>\n

‘The process was undeniably complex, with multiple factors to consider,’ noted Noor Nieftagodien, South African Research Chair in Local Histories & Present Realities and Head of the History Workshop at Wits University, in a discussion with Radio Islam International. This underscores the immense challenges the IEC had to navigate.<\/p>\n

Despite the challenges, it’s important to recognize the IEC’s commendable performance in managing the complexities of the election process, as emphasized by Prof Nieftagodien.<\/p>\n

“It appears that even though there were glitches and delays it does not yet appear to be a substantial challenge to the IEC. It was difficult but by and large, as a country we need to acknowledge the sturding role that IEC has played,” he added.<\/p>\n

Significantly, the vote counting for the National and Provincial Elections 2024 has been successfully concluded, marking a key milestone in the electoral process.<\/p>\n

This is according to the Electoral Commission’s Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo.<\/p>\n

Mamabolo briefed the media at the IEC’s National Results Operations Centre in Midrand on Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n

“Counting procedures have been concluded, with only a few voting stations reported still counting at 3 pm. The results compilation process entails ensuring the results’ accuracy and validation.<\/p>\n

Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo explained that The results compilation process is meticulous, involving scanning each result slip to create an image, double-blind capture of each result slip, and auditing by independent auditors. The result system was also subjected to external audits, with parties having the opportunity to conduct their own audits.<\/p>\n
