This decision, announced at the party’s Gauteng Provincial Imbizo, stems from concerns over governance and service delivery failures, particularly in informal settlements.
Speaking to Radio Islam, Mashaba reiterated his view of the DA, labelling them “arrogant”, “disloyal” and “backstabbers”.

“If anyone wanted to sit back and wait for the DA to remove us, they could keep their views; we decided to engage the ANC to see if they could put together a government in Tshwane. Before we disrupted the municipality, we had to review our participation,” he said.

ActionSA’s Gauteng leader, Funzi Ngobeni, criticised the DA for engaging in talks with the ANC about forming a grand coalition without involving ActionSA, leading them to preemptively exit the coalition.

Ngobeni emphasised dissatisfaction with DA leadership, particularly regarding the mayor’s ineffective governance.
Mashaba explained, after reviewing a report that highlighted the dangers of continuing the alliance with the DA, whom they found to be “unreliable and deceitful”, they made the decision to withdraw from the coalition.
“Corruption is very key for us as ActionSA; we are not going to protect any party involved in corruption. We have to put the residents of the city of Tshwane first, especially the townships; we now have evidence of the DA’s total lack of service delivery,” he said.

He made it clear that if they are unable to form a government with the ANC, they will step back and reassess. “We will only work with the ANC if they can give us a commitment they will not tolerate corruption. But we will not hesitate to pull out of such an arrangement if they continue with corruption,” he emphasised.
ActionSA now seeks to form a new coalition focused on service delivery but is prepared to move into opposition if negotiations fail.

LISTEN to the full interview with Ml Sulaimaan Ravat and ActionSA party leader Herman Mashaba, here.

Azra Hoosen | ah@radioislam.co.za 18 September 2024 | 15:00 CAT 2 min read ActionSA has officially ended its coalition with the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Tshwane, as confirmed by party leader Herman Mashaba.
