As the festive season approaches, so does the risk of increased home invasions and other crimes. Yaseen Theba, managing director of Vision Tactical, shared vital safety measures during an interview with Radio Islam International<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAwareness is key,\u201d emphasized Theba. \u201cPeople need to create layers of security, such as burglar systems and alarm systems, and be vigilant in public spaces.\u201d<\/p>\n

For those travelling over the holidays, Theba highlighted the importance of reassessing home security systems to ensure everything functions optimally. \u201cCheck your alarms, panic buttons, and beams. Automatic and timed lights or smart home systems can also deter intruders,\u201d he advised.<\/p>\n

Beyond property protection, Theba raised concerns about a disturbing trend of “express kidnappings” during the festive period. \u201cThese involve holding individuals for a few hours while draining their accounts using banking apps. We advise the public to maintain privacy regarding expenses and shopping habits,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n

The safety of children is another priority. \u201cParents can leverage technology like tracking devices, smartwatches, and apps to monitor their children\u2019s movements,\u201d said Theba. He also encouraged using applications such as Life360, which provides crash detection and location tracking. \u201cKnowing where your loved ones are in emergencies can save critical time,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

Theba also underscored the importance of community involvement in crime prevention. \u201cJoining local patrollers or community police forums (CPFs) makes a real difference. Communities that protect one another benefit directly from improved safety,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, he highlighted the need for diverse participation in CPF initiatives, including trauma counselling and support programs led by women. \u201cPolice stations need help from all members of society,\u201d he said, urging residents to collaborate with local security companies and police stations to bolster community safety.<\/p>\n
