\ud83d\udcf8 Lt Gen Mkhwanazi\u2019s allegations have thrown the SAPS into crisis, raising urgent questions about political and judicial integrity in South Africa.<\/p><\/div>\n

A week after an explosive public briefing by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, South Africa remains stunned by his sweeping allegations implicating SAPS leadership, senior politicians, and even members of the judiciary in a web of organised crime and corruption.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Radio Islam’s ASRI Report<\/a>,<\/em> analyst Angelo Fick cautioned that what we\u2019re witnessing may be \u201cjust the tip of the iceberg breaking through the water.\u201d He traced the rot within the SAPS back decades, describing the current crisis as a culmination of institutional decay, with South Africans losing faith in systems once tasked with protecting them.<\/p>\n

\u201cDockets go missing, court rolls are tampered with, and we\u2019ve even seen senior judges implicated,\u201d Fick noted. \u201cThis is not just a crisis in SAPS, it\u2019s an institutional failure across criminal justice, education, healthcare, and governance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mkhwanazi\u2019s allegations, touching three provinces KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, and the Eastern Cape have thrust the state into an uncomfortable spotlight. Of immediate concern is the lack of response from the Presidency and senior government officials. \u201cSix days have passed, and no decisive action has been taken. This delay is unacceptable,\u201d Fick said, stressing that South Africans deserve \u201cintervention, not empty statements.\u201d<\/p>\n

He was particularly critical of the expected response from President Cyril Ramaphosa, suggesting that if it amounted to little more than commissions of inquiry or more \u201cfamily meetings,\u201d the country would remain mired in inertia. \u201cWe\u2019ve heard too many times that the president is \u2018seized with the matter.\u2019 What we need are dismissals, audits, and prosecutions, not clich\u00e9s.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fick called for Parliament to assert its oversight authority. \u201cMinisters should be recalled for clarity, and if lying to Parliament is proven as alleged in the arms deal scandal then criminal charges must follow. Accountability must stretch to the President.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beyond this, he pointed to the Cape Flats\u2019 worsening gang violence as another reflection of the state\u2019s collapse. \u201cGangs are not just criminal actors they\u2019re symptoms of economic exclusion and state neglect. Until we address the roots inequality, poor education, lack of opportunity we will not end the violence.\u201d<\/p>\n

As South Africa waits for Ramaphosa\u2019s promised Sunday address, many, including Fick, remain unconvinced. \u201cThe president\u2019s own handling of Phala Phala already showed a reluctance for transparency,\u201d he warned. \u201cWhat we need now is not just damage control, but a reimagination of the state.\u201d<\/p>\n
