Misconceptions about the Ahlul Bayt – Part 10

Virtues of the Ahlul Bayt
إني سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول كل سبب ونسب منقطع يوم القيامة إلا سببي ونسبي
Hadhrat Umar (RA) says, I heard Rasulullah ﷺ saying, ‘Every tie of kinship, and every association will be cut off on the Day of Qiyamah, except my kinship and my association.”
The Ahlul Bayt are unique in the sense that it is only their kinship that will hold weight on the Day of Judgment. No other family relation will benefit on that day. The Sahabah radiyallahu ‘anhum and the Khulafah understood this narration to be specific with the Ahlul Bayt which is the correct view.

Misconceptions about the Ahlul Bayt
Today we continue with some of the misconceptions with regards to the Ahlul Bayt (RA).
There are some who have exaggerated in their statements and so-called love for the Ahlul Bayt, and have thereby actually done them a great disservice.
They are those who ascribe the knowledge of the unseen to the Ahlul Bayt

None knows the unseen except Allah, the Almighty as He said:
قُل لَّا يَعْلَمُ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ٱلْغَيْبَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ ۚ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ أَيَّانَ يُبْعَثُونَ
Say: “None in the heavens and the earth knows the Unseen except Allâh, nor can they perceive when they shall be resurrected.” [An-Naml 27: 65]
All the Messengers whom Allah has sent to His servants to guide them used to confirm to their people that they did not know the unseen.
Allah, the Almighty ordered Muhammad ﷺ to:
Say (O Muhammad) “I don’t tell you that with me are the treasures of Allah, nor (that) I know the Unseen; nor I tell you that I am an angel. I but follow what is revealed to me.” Say: “Are the blind and the one who sees equal? Will you not then take thought?” [Al-An‘am 6: 50]

However, if this is certain for the Prophets (AS) and among them the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and he is the master of Ahlul Bayt, then what is going to be the case in regard the rest of Ahlul Bayt?

Those who ascribe to Ahlul Bayt prophecy and prefer them over the Prophets!

Prophecy is not something that can be obtainable or chosen by people but rather it is a choosing by Allah, the Almighty as Allah says:
ٱللَّهُ يَصْطَفِى مِنَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ رُسُلًا وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِيعٌۢ بَصِيرٌ
Allâh chooses Messengers from angels and from men. Verily, Allâh is All-Hearer, All-Seer. [Al Hajj 22: 75]

Therefore, none among the people has the right to approve the condition of a pious person and ascribe prophecy to him! For that is a right for Allah alone.

Al-Kashshi reported in his book of men`s biographies, from Abu ‘Abd Allah (Ja‘far al-Sadiq), he said:
“Who says that we are Prophets, may the curse of Allah be upon him, and who doubts that, may the curse of Allah be upon him” [Rijal al-Kashi, Vol. 2, p. 590.]

If ascribing Prophecy to the Imams of Ahlul Bayt is considered an act of disbelief and can recant one’s religion, and he and the one who doubts that deserve to be cursed, then how about favouring the Imams over the Prophets of Allah? No doubt that is indeed more apparent disbelief and deception than the statement of them being Prophets.

Those who ascribe to Ahlul Bayt that they can benefit and harm them!
Profiting and harming is in the Hand of Allah, the alone, and the most honoured among the creation Muhammad ﷺ was asked by His Creator, to say to the people:

Say (O Muhammad) “I possess no power of benefit or hurt to myself except as Allah wills. If I had the knowledge of the Unseen, I should have secured for myself an abundance of wealth, and no evil should have touched me. I am but a warner, and a bringer of glad tidings unto people who believe.” [Al-A‘raf 7: 188]
If this is the condition of the Prophet ﷺ and he is the master of the children of ’Adam (AS), then how about Ahlul Bayt when they are less in grade than him in terms of merit and rank and they are his followers?
