Fatimah RA – Part 14

Virtues of the Ahlul Bayt

Abu Hurairah RA reports, “One day Rasulullah ﷺ kept us waiting at daybreak. When evening came, one of us asked him, ‘O Rasulullah! We were worried as we did not see you today.’ Rasulullah ﷺ explained, ‘Certainly, an angel from the sky had not seen me so he sought permission from Allah to see me. He informed me or gave me glad tidings that Fatimah, my daughter, is the queen of the women of my Ummah and that Hassan and Hussain are the leaders of the youth of Jannat.’” RA [Bukhari narrated it in al Tarikh al Kabir vol. 1 pg. 232]

Famous personalities from the Ahlul Bayt: Fatimah

The Secret
In the last days of Rasulullah ﷺ, an incident occurred which has been narrated by Aisha RA, “Once, Rasulullah ﷺ was resting at home and we were present at his side. Fatimah RA came – and at that time she was the only living child of Rasulullah ﷺ. Her walk resembled the walk of Rasulullah ﷺ. When Rasulullah ﷺ saw Fatimah RA, he welcomed her and made her sit by him. He then began whispering something to her, due to which she began weeping uncontrollably. When Rasulullah ﷺ saw her sadness, he whispered something again to which she laughed.”

When Rasulullah ﷺ left the gathering, Aisha RA asked Fatimah RA the secret. She responded, “I cannot disclose the secret of Rasulullah.”

After the demise of Rasulullah ﷺ, Aisha RA took an oath on the right she has over Fatima RA to tell her the secret. Fatimah RA responded, “The first time Rasulullah ﷺ whispered something to me he said, ‘Jibril AS comes every year and we revise the Qur’an once – I listen to him and he listens to me. However, this year we revised it twice. I divine from this that my death is close. O Fatimah! Fear Allah and exercise patience. I am the best forerunner for you.’ I began weeping on hearing this. When Rasulullah ﷺ observed my uneasiness and worry, he whispered to me that, O Fatimah, are you not pleased of being the queen of the women of Jannat.” Other narrations mention, “Rasulullah ﷺ told me that Allah had informed him that he was to pass away in this illness, hence I wept. He then whispered to me, ‘O Fatimah, you will be the first person from my family to join me.’ Hearing this, I was elated.” [Mishkat pg. 568]

Expressing Grief at the Demise of Rasulullah ﷺ
The sickness of Rasulullah ﷺ increased. When it intensified, Fatimah RA said in anguish, “O the pain of my father!” Rasulullah ﷺ comforted her by saying, “There will be no discomfort for your father after today.” Rasulullah ﷺ then left this ephemeral world for the everlasting one.

The demise of Rasulullah ﷺ was the most catastrophic calamity the Ummah faced and was an unbearable pain for the entire Ummah. The wives of Rasulullah ﷺ, his relatives and the Sahabah RA were all in a state of shock and devastation the details of which can be read in hadith and history books.

After the death of Rasulullah ﷺ, she lamented,
“O my beloved father! You answered the call of your Rabb! O my beloved father! Jannat al Firdows will be your abode! O my beloved father! We will convey the news of your death to Jibril AS!

The shrouding, burial, janazah salah, etc. of Rasulullah ﷺ took place and then Rasulullah ﷺ was buried in the blessed home of Aisha RA. After the burial, when the Sahabah RA were returning, Fatimah RA in devastation and grief addressed Anas RA:
يَا أَنَسُ، أَطَابَتْ أَنْفُسُكُمْ أَنْ تَحْثُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم التُّرَابَ
O Anas! Were you pleased to throw sand on Rasulullah ﷺ? (Narrated by Bukhari)

Rasulullah’s ﷺ Bequest to Sayyidah Fatimah
In the last days, Rasulullah ﷺ made several bequests to Fatimah RA. One special bequest was regarding the prohibition of mourning that no traditional mourning should be carried out upon his death. Rasulullah ﷺ told Fatimah RA: “When I pass away, do not scrape your face (out of grief), do not allow your hair to be dishevelled, do not complain and do not allow a professional crier to cry over me.
