your spring garden would not be complete without the charming whiskered faces of pansies. Plant in ribbons to edge paths, as a carpety in the front of boarders and to brighten containers window boxes and hanging baskets. their smaller reletaives violas prefer some aftertoon shade.
bulbs that flowered in the winter should be given an application of bulb food to be stored as nutrients for next years flowers. Even though leaves are dying back, these should no be removed as they also provide nutrients. Sprinkle seed of quick growing linaria among bulbs to hide yellowing foliage.
Ground covers help prevent evaporation and keep weeds under control. groundcovers are sometimes overlooked in the general spring cleaning and fertilising programme. A foliar feed is preferable as granuals can lodge among foliage and burn leaves.
