Floyd Shivambu, co-founder of the EFF and now leader of the Afrika Mayibuye Movement party says that his party is here to stay.
Speaking to Ml Sulaimaan Ravat, the second Deputy President Nomsa ka Mashobane Sibisi emphasized that the AMM has no doubt that their widespread movement will do well in the upcoming elections because they are “not a cult” with roots in corruption. The AMM is a “disciplined movement,” not for self-enrichment, that came into existence after consultation processes to fulfil a need for a new political party in South Africa.
Nomsa explained that the party is here as a mandate from the people, by the people, to form a political movement to address problems like water shortages, crime, unemployment, GBV, and the collapsing of infrastructure in the country.
Their targets for the upcoming government elections, where they are confident they will win, is “to govern the country” and lead the municipalities, said Nomsa, as there is no party in SA who has undertaken consultation processes as they have done.
Structures are in place representing the movement across the country. Delegates from all provinces and regions attended the AMM’s First Inaugural Convention held in Soweto where, despite not having actual numbers as new people are joining daily, there were more than a thousand members in attendance. She reiterated that comrades who “felt the heat” decided to exit the movement of their own accord.
The Afrika Mayibuye Movement is no longer an interim leadership, and after their Gala Dinner this weekend and a holiday break, they plan on “hitting the ground rolling going forward” from January, when they will be starting with election workshops.
