Aid Worker Killed in DRC

An aid worker has been shot dead in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The BBC reports that the aid worker was killed in an ambush in eastern DRC.

Aid group World Vision said another of its employees was seriously wounded in the ambush, while two were kidnapped during the attack on their convoy. The attack took place on Wednesday in Lubero in North Kivu Province.

World Vision has condemned the incident, saying it was an attack on the most vulnerable, children and communities the staff had been serving.

Meanwhile, according to the BBC, officials say the ambush was carried out by the Mai-Mai militia, which has been active in eastern DR Congo since the early 1990s.
