Monday 20121119 – In this crucial discussion, Ml Ahmed Akoo mentioned that every person is aware of whom an orphan is and even the most hard-hearted person would soften toward an orphan. However, as technology evolves, the world gives birth to new orphans called, The Modern Day Orphan. Due to techno gadget addiction by parents, children are robbed of their right of parental care, nurturing and love. Moulana mentioned that, in most homes, the family unit no longer exists.
Referring to an article Moulana read; when a teacher asked her students what they would love to be the most in their lives, she was moved to tears by one response: ‘I wish I was a TV so that my parents would look at me and I’d be able to keep them company’. Other kids might say, ‘I’d like to be an iPhone or Blackberry, then only would I receive my parents attention.’ Even though the family sits together, everybody is in another place, in their own cyber world…
Moulana quoted a verse from Al Qur’an wherein Allah says, ‘It is Allah who made your dwellings a place of Peace, a dwelling of Comfort, a dwelling of Love.’ Is this what we derive from our homes? With many challenges in society, Moulana urged each parent to take Parenting, an Amaanah from Allah, seriously in order to contribute positively to society by producing well-bred, pious children.
