Renewal of the Heart and Soul
Phase 5 – Transformation: Becoming Who Allah Loves
Carrying Ramadhan Forward
My dear brothers and sisters, today is the 29th day of Ramadhan. Tonight this blessed month could be over — or there may be one more. But regardless, the end is imminent. The month that has been our spiritual sanctuary is about to depart.
And with its departure comes a fear that every believer feels: Will I lose what I built? Will my heart return to where it was before?
As we complete our journey of heart renewal, we speak about Carrying Ramadhan Forward.
The Fear of Losing It
This fear is itself a sign of faith. The hypocrites are relieved when Ramadhan ends. They are happy to return to their old ways. But the believer grieves. The believer fears that the connection they felt, the softness they experienced, the closeness they enjoyed — will fade with the fading moon.
This fear is healthy. It keeps you vigilant. It drives you to protect what you have built.
The Secret to Carrying It Forward
The Prophet ﷺ gave us the secret to sustaining our spiritual gains:
“أَحَبُّ الْأَعْمَالِ إِلَى اللَّهِ أَدْوَمُهَا وَإِنْ قَلَّ”
“The most beloved deeds to Allah are the most consistent, even if they are small.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
Not the most intense. Not the most spectacular. The most consistent. A little bit every day, carried forward throughout the year, is more beloved to Allah than a burst of intensity that fades.
Your Post-Ramadhan Plan
Before Ramadhan ends, make a plan. Ask yourself:
- What one deed from Ramadhan can I maintain every day? One page of Quran? Two rak’ah of night prayer? Morning and evening adhkar?
- What bad habit did I break in Ramadhan that I must never return to?
- What good habit did I build that I must continue?
Write it down. Commit to it. Share it with someone who will hold you accountable.
The Six Days of Shawwal
The Prophet ﷺ gave us a gift to help us transition:
“مَنْ صَامَ رَمَضَانَ ثُمَّ أَتْبَعَهُ سِتًّا مِنْ شَوَّالٍ كَانَ كَصِيَامِ الدَّهْرِ”
“Whoever fasts Ramadhan and follows it with six days of Shawwal, it is as if he fasted the entire year.” (Muslim)
These six days bridge the gap. They keep the spirit of fasting alive. They extend the reward. Do not miss them.
The Heart After Ramadhan
A renewed heart does not stop renewing. It continues to turn to its Lord, day after day, month after month. It stumbles, but gets back up. It falls, but repents. It weakens, but seeks strength.
The key is not perfection. The key is returning. Every time you slip, return. Every time you forget, remember. Every time you fall, get back up. This is what carries Ramadhan forward.
“إِنَّ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا رَبُّنَا اللَّهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَقَامُوا”
“Indeed, those who have said, ‘Our Lord is Allah,’ and then remained steadfast.” (Surah Fussilat, 41: 30)
Steadfastness. This is the goal. Not the intensity of Ramadhan, but the consistency of a lifetime.
May Allah accept our Ramadhan, renew our hearts, and allow us to carry this renewal forward until we meet Him. Ameen.
